Consultant Radiologist
NHS Medical & Dental: Consultant
Job overview
Join us as a Consultant Radiologist at Northampton General Hospital NHS Trust, with welcomed interests in Paediatrics, Interventional Radiology, and Gynaecological imaging (including Endometriosis). This fully funded substantive post supports our expanding Radiology Department and offers the chance to shape the future of specialist services.
You’ll work within a dynamic, supportive team of consultant radiologists, delivering high-quality imaging to the Trust and county-wide primary care. We encourage sub-specialty development, and additional training can be provided on-site or through partner centres. There is also significant scope to develop and lead new interventional or specialist services aligned to your expertise.
Applicants must hold FRCR (or equivalent) and be on the Specialist Register, or within six months of CCT at the time of interview.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will contribute to the general radiology on-call rota.
Consultants are expected to provide cover for colleagues who are absent on leave. The number of consultants who are on leave at any one time is governed by local Directorate policy and six weeks’ notice of leave is expected.
The successful candidate will be contractually accountable to Northampton General Hospital Trust for the provision of services. The appointee will be managerially responsible to the Chief Executive through the Medical Director and Clinical Director.
The appointee will be expected to participate in managerial and administrative work and should be aware of the broader context within the NHS in which consultants operate.
Please see attached job description which covers the main duties of this job from page 12.
Working for our organisation
Being a large DGH with a proud history, we are big enough to get interesting cases, but small enough to care, coach and develop. With over 200 consultants, a similar number of trainees and approximately 60 (with existing plans to expand to 80+) medical undergraduates throughout the year, NGH provides comprehensive care and extensive training opportunities.
With this in mind, we have built a state of the art emergency assessment unit (Nye Bevan building) and are developing new ways of working to streamline in-patient care and optimize working with our partners.
We are a clinically led organization with most of senior management coming from nursing and medical roles. This offers great opportunities to get involved with all levels of care from departmental to the wider picture of the hospital as a whole.
NGH has an excellent social centre with a large library, gym with swimming pool and the Cripps Education Centre where lunch and snacks are available in one of our restaurants away from the main hospital. Frequent educational sessions run in the Centre for all levels of staff and it serves as an oasis from the clinical areas.
