Job overview

Carer Peer Support Worker in the Children and Young Peoples Eating Disorder Team

Job overview

Do you have personal experience of caring for a loved one who has an Eating Disorder?

Do you want to use this experience to help others as a Carer Peer Support Worker?

Peer support is when people use their own lived experiences to support others who are having similar experiences.  This is an exciting opportunity for someone with personal experience of supporting and caring for a family member or friend with mental health challenges, to share their experience and support others.

We are looking for Carer Peer Support Workers to work within the Children and Young peoples Eating Disorder Team (CEDS).

Main duties of the job

Carer Peer Support Workers for CEDS are successfully managing their own wellbeing and have experience of caring for and supporting a loved one who has experience of Eating Disorder or Restriction.  The aim of the role is to support other individuals who are caring for children and young people using the service.

The role is to compliment the support given by healthcare professionals to inspire hope and empower people to reach their own individual recovery goals and make sense of their personal journey as a carer.

You do not need to have prior peer support experience or training to apply for this role. You will be expected to attend a Peer Support Worker course if you have not undertaken prior training.

A recognised Peer Support training qualification is available.

Applicants who do not indicate that they have lived experience or that of supporting a young person with an Eating Disorder in their application will not be considered for the role.

Our experience is that the people most likely to be invited to interview are those who refer to the points on the person specification in their supporting statement.

Note down the relevant skills and experience you have that are related to the essential and desirable criteria in the supporting information, as your application will be shortlisted against these criteria.

Please confirm on your supporting statement that you have your own experience of  caring for a child or young person and describe how you manage your wellbeing now.

Working for our organisation

NHFT is an integrated primary care and mental health Trust, providing physical, mental health and specialty services in both hospital settings and out in the community. Because we put the person at the centre of all we do, we focus on delivering care that is as easy to access as possible. This means many of our services can be provided at home, work or in schools. We also provide health services to various prisons and detention centres in Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire.

NHFT promotes a culture of learning to improve the care and safety of our patients and staff, which focuses on people who enable our Trust to be ‘outstanding’ by supporting opportunity, innovation, development and growth.
