Qualifications and training

Essential criteria

Recognised SALT qualification (degree or postgraduate diploma)
HCPC registered RCSLT member

Desirable criteria

Knowledge of challenging behaviour/positive behaviour support
Evidence of additional training/CPD

Experience

Essential criteria

Working with people with learning disabilities
Working with people with eating and drinking difficulties
Working as part of MDT
Previous healthcare experience/Community experience

Desirable criteria

Supervision of assistants/ volunteers/ junior therapists or other supervision experience

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

Essential criteria

Able to carry out a specialist assessment, formulate a diagnosis and use therapy approaches appropriate to clients with complex needs
Excellent oral and written communication skills with people from a wide variety of backgrounds and ability to make reasonable adjustments as required
Able to drive and has access to a car for work

Desirable criteria

Knowledge of national policies affecting people with learning disabilities/challenging behaviour

As a Senior Assessor, you have the opportunity to focus on delivering direct care. Furthermore, if you have the relevant experience and skills, you can take on an additional responsibility. We limit this to one responsibility to allow for focused time on that topic, rather than having your time stretched too thinly. When taking on an additional responsibility, your case volume is reduced, making time available for this focused time.

For Senior Assessors, additional responsibility options include supporting more complex cases, ensuring quality assurance, providing training, facilitating family engagement, and contributing to pathway development.
