NHFT have recently undergone a medicines supply model redesign bringing their medicines supply service in-house and we are looking for a dynamic and motivated pharmacy technician to support our supply service team.
You will be part of a friendly, innovative and supportive pharmacy team, delivering a high-quality patient focused clinical pharmacy service to:
- Adult and Older People's Mental Health wards
- Child Adolescent Mental Health wards
- Community Hospital wards/Palliative care
You will be part of the dispensary team of pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and assistants who support the medicines supply service from the Berrywood Hospital dispensary. Working closely with the dispensary team, you will support in managing the daily workflow to ensure an efficient and high-quality medicines supply service delivery.
You will also provide pharmacy technician support and advice at ward level, to wards in the Northampton / West Northants locality based away from the main site.
Main duties of the job
Your primary role as a band 5 Pharmacy Technician Dispensary and Inpatient Services will be to support the delivery of a clinical and technical pharmacy service to in-patient facilities within Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (NHFT).

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The role includes tasks such as:
- To dispense and final check in-patient and outpatient prescriptions
- To carry out the distribution and stock control of medicines
- To act as a troubleshooter on a rota basis as the first point of call, resolving medication and prescription issues, coordinating discharges, supporting staff and patients, and ensuring efficient pharmacy operations
- To perform a wide range of activities at ward level which will include medicines reconciliation, management of medication supply for in-patients and community patients including stock, non- stock, discharge, leave and self-medication, and supporting ward areas with management of the removal, disposal and record keeping of unwanted medicines from in-patient areas.
- Assessing patient’s own medicines brought into hospital for potential re-use
- To inform patient about their medication and provide patient medication counselling including support self-adminstration
The post-holder will be expected to liaise with a variety of individuals including patients, relatives, medical and nursing staff, third party service providers and colleagues at acute hospital trusts, community pharmacies, GP surgeries etc.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Current registration and membership with the GPhC as a Pharmacy Technician
- NVQ Level 3 in Pharmacy Services (or course equivalent)
- Accredited checking pharmacy technician
- Evidence of recent continuing professional learning
Experience
Essential criteria
- Post Qualification experience in the NHS as a pharmacy technician
- Experience of liaising with other healthcare professionals
- Evidence of recent continuing professional learning
- IT literate with ability to use electronic systems/spreadsheets/databases
Desirable criteria
- Ward-based Medicines Management Experience
- Experience of working within a multidisciplinary team
- Counselling patients on multiple medications
- Previous use of SystmOne
- Previous experience or knowledge of hospital electronic prescribing and medicines administration systems

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
