The Diabetic & High-Risk Foot Service is seeking a motivated Orthotist who is looking for a unique opportunity.

The successful applicant will join our already long-established therapeutic footwear team, specialising in a complex caseload of diabetes. The post involves working alongside a dynamic team of   Diabetes Specialist Podiatrists and Footwear Specialists to provide optimum care and play an essential role in a multi- disciplinary approach to patient treatment plans. The post holder will be instrumental in ensuring that our forward-thinking footwear team continues to deliver a high-quality clinical therapeutic footwear service and  excellent patient outcomes.

This is a countywide post based in Northamptonshire. Main duties of the job

Assess and manage the on-going care of an agreed caseload of patients within the specialist area.  In particular, care will be provided to patients with:

•            Late/end stage complications arising from diabetic foot disease and inflammatory arthropathies resulting in complex deformities requiring therapeutic footwear provision.
•            Circulatory and neurological deficits and reduced tissue viability (e.g. pressure ulcers), requiring specialist off loading and footwear
•            Complex medical conditions, (e.g.  Peripheral vascular disease), that significantly impact foot pathology.

The post holder will be responsible for a defined caseload, primarily consisting of patients with diabetes and have associated complications. They will be expected to communicate effectively with other healthcare professionals and the diabetes multi-disciplinary team.

Prescribe therapeutic stock and modified stock footwear and be actively involved in the provision of made to measure footwear.

To participate in the education, training and supervision of other staff in association with therapeutic footwear.

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Health Profession Council registered Podiatrist
  • Evidence of appropriate specialist postgraduate development
  • Postgraduate experience/clinical expert in the musculoskeletal field including postgraduate education to Masters level
Desirable criteria
  • Understand the impact of clinical targets and development of local services
  • Leadership training

Skills and Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrate high level of clinical practice working with complex/ high risk patient groups
  • Proven problem solver within footwear provision
