Main duties of the job

As a Band 7 Principal Employee Relations Advisor, you will:

  • Be care group aligned leading on complex employee relations cases, providing expert advice and guidance; 
  • Line manage a team of Senior Employee Relations Advisors however have oversight of practice within your reporting structure;
  • Develop and implement policies that support a fair and inclusive workplace;
  • Support managers in resolving workplace issues effectively and in a timely manner.
  •  Ensure compliance with employment law and best practices;
  • Drive initiatives that enhance the employee relations team and the service provided.
  • Review casework and take steps to ensure the team operates a continuous and shared learning review process

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

You will be joining an established team of experienced employee relations advisors and we're looking for someone who has the following: 

  • Extensive consolidated experience in employee relations and HR advisory roles.
  • Strong knowledge of employment law, ACAS, Agenda for Change, and a confidence in advising in these areas. 
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to manage sensitive situations with diplomacy and professionalism.
  • A proactive, strategic mindset with leadership capabilities.    
  •  Demonstrable experience of managing a team and leading on continuous improvements projects
  •  Evidence of partnership working with staff side colleagues

Essential criteria
  • • Demonstrable consolidated experience of advising senior operational managers across a wide range of specialised HR and employee relations matters within a complex, multi-site, unionised environment
  • • Experience of managing a team of ER staff in a specific work area
  • • Experience of leading complex organisational change
  • • Experience of advising on employee relations panels including appeals up to and including dismissal
  • • Excellent working knowledge and understanding of employment law
  • • National NHS priorities and the significance of the contributions of HR
  • • Relevant professional or management qualification to masters level equivalent acquired through degree and professional HR qualification plus additional training or equivalent experience

Essential criteria
  • • Relevant professional or management qualification to masters level equivalent acquired through degree and professional HR qualification plus additional training or equivalent experience
  • • Professionally qualified to MCIPD level

  • • Master’s (CIPD level 7) or equivalent level qualification
