Job overview

The role of People Team is to enable the Trust to achieve its strategic aims and service objectives by promoting the most effective utilisation of staff, supporting EMAS in implementing organisational change, providing challenge and effective advice in employee relations and all other associated employee related challenges. 

Main duties of the job

As the People Advisor you will be required to be actively engaged to help provide support and understand how this fits into the corporate strategy to meet key performance indicators.  The People Team is responsible for delivering a proactive, responsive service which meets the needs and exceeds the expectations of staff and managers.

As part of a passionate team at EMAS you will be at the forefront of providing a comprehensive and professional human resources service to the managers and employees of the Trust; therefore an ability to build good working relationships is pivotal.

You will be driven and passionate and want to be part of a dynamic People team. Through excellent communication, coaching and influencing skills the successful candidate will support and advise management on a variety of people issues at an operational level ensuring that decision making is consistent with current employment legislation and good employment practice.

The suitable candidate will have a proven track record of operating in an operational environment.

You will be responsible for specific projects and the development and implementation of policies, procedures and project work that will ensure the effective use of our people to achieve key objectives of the Trust.

The successful applicant will be hybrid based working in the office and with flexibility to work at home reporting to the People Business Partner.

You will be expected to travel around the region when required (and other divisions/counties periodically), and will also be expected to be flexible as you will be operating in a fast paced environment.

This requirement will be to attend an EMAS site for training or work purposes.  To give an indication to the candidate, this will be on a regular basis to maintain a presence and could be around 2 or 3 days per week in proportion to the need and your contracted hours.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • CIPD Level 5 (or studying towards/equivalent experience)
Desirable criteria
  • Management qualification or equivalent

Experience/Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Proven track record of operating in an operational people directorate environment
  • Operational People Advisor experience in recruitment, discipline, grievance, absence management, equality and diversity in a complex setting
  • Up-to-date knowledge of employment legislation related to core employment issues (maternity, partnerity,adoption,WTD, leave)
  • Experience of advising managers on complex ER issues
  • Experience of working with trade unions/representatives
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of developing and/or updating policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of the wider NHS initiatives

Skills

  • Ability to manage and prioritise own workload
