Are you looking for the opportunity to lead and influence the future provision of a dietetic service within Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust?  Due to maternity leave, an exciting opportunity has arisen for a fixed term 1.0WTE Paediatric Dietitian Team Leader at the QMC campus, Nottingham.

The successful candidate will have a leadership role within the paediatric dietetic team, who support across a range of services including Oncology, Gastroenterology, General Medicine, Renal, Metabolics and Allergy. You will also hold a clinical caseload, which is within Paediatric Cystic Fibrosis. We are looking for an experienced and proactive dietitian with excellent communication, organisational, team-working and leadership skills.

Main duties of the job

You will work closely with fellow Dietetic Team Leaders, Therapy Service Managers, Chief Dietetic Technicians, Clinical Leads and Clinical Dietitians to develop and support staff within their roles. As a Team Leader, you will support operational leadership within the paediatric team (including appraisals, continued professional development opportunities, staff attendance and wellbeing) to ensure effective and efficient service delivery, promote staff development & wellbeing, as well as providing expert knowledge and support for dietetic colleagues.

The clinical role is based in paediatric cystic fibrosis (CF). The paediatric CF centre at NUH cares for children and young people in Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Lincolnshire, seeing patients at the QMC and other hospitals across the East Midlands through a system of shared care. The successful candidate will have a caseload which will cover children’s wards, outpatient CF clinics at QMC and regional CF clinics.
You will be a core and valued member of the multi-disciplinary team, comprised of consultants, other allied health professionals, specialist nurses and social workers, delivering high quality evidence-based care.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

You’ll need to have excellent communication and leadership skills, be adaptable and confident to work autonomously and with other members of staff within a supportive Dietetic and multi-disciplinary team. We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated member of the team, with evidence of continuing professional development within their current role.

Experience in Leadership is desirable, however, support and training will be provided. This role will include conducting staff appraisals; Health & Wellbeing and attendance management meetings; supporting Clinical Lead Dietitians in service development; team meetings; rostering. Experience in recruitment, risk management/ incident investigation and appraisals is desirable, however training and support will be available.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • HCPC registered
  • Requires specialist knowledge for area of responsibility
  • Recognised post-graduate training relevant to specialty (eg either obtained MSc or completed modules
  • Evidence of maintaining professional competence through CPD
Desirable criteria
  • Higher Qualification (MSC or above)

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant post graduate experience, including wide exposure to different specialties and/or experiences at Band 6 in relevant specialty
  • Experience of management of performance and sickness of staff and participation in recruitment of new staff to maximize workforce potential
  • Experience in evaluation of evidence based practice, audit, service development and benchmarking
  • Experience in use of appropriate outcome measures
Desirable criteria
  • Previous Experiece as a team leader dietitian
  • Experiece of working in different clinical settings

Communication skills

Essential criteria
  • Excellent verbal, non-verbal and written communication skills including explaining, negotiating, motivating and training
  • Participation and leading /organising in-service training programmes
  • Presention skills to groups of up to 25
  • Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with the multidisciplinary team, patients and carers

  • Ability to assess complex information, formulate a diagnosis and plan patient management using clinical reasoning skills and a range of treatment options.
  • Ability to solve problems within the team and make decisions where there are a range of options including clinical and strategic issues
  • Assess and manage risk in own area
  • Evaluation of clinical and non-clinical interventions of self and your team
  • Ability to collate information to identify trends and inform service development e.g. use of spreadsheets, computer generated workload stats.
  • Ability to prepare annual review of services

Planning and organisation skills

Essential criteria
  • Ability to organise and prioritise workload of your self and your team, including daily tasks and longer term planning despite interruptions and changing priorities
  • Effective delegation

Physical skill

Essential criteria
  • Basic keyboard skills including the inputting of data
  • Ability to use a range of medical devices, some of which require dexterity and accuracy

  • Undertake out of hours duties as required. Maintain competence in nutritional support skills
