Job overview

The Patient Pathway Administrator is a significant role and a key member of our administrative team supporting clinicians and other administrative staff and ensuring that patient's letters are typed in a timely manner. The main purpose of the role is to deliver high-quality, timely and efficient administrative services to our service to allow our patients to move smoothly along their hospital pathways for best possible and timely care.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will deliver high-quality and timely administrative services that predominantly consists of typing clinical letters and ensuring patient's test results are tracked efficiently. 

Experience of medical terminology is an advantage and some form of typing experience is essential.  

It is preferable but not essential that the successful candidate will have had previous NHS experience, ideally in a similar role; some business & administration education or equivalent experience; and experience of using clinical IT systems (such as Notis or CareFlow). Some competence in Microsoft Office software including MS Word, Excel and Outlook are essential.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post-holder will deliver administrative services that include typing clinic letters to patients, other NUH clinical teams and GPs, based on audio dictation from clinicians; ensure accurate entry of data to ensure patient's test results are tracked; work flexibly and step-in where needed in administration to allow the service to continue to grow and improve; support each other and work as One Team.

Use judgement and initiative to prioritise the importance and urgency of particular requests within defined guidelines.

Exchange sensitive or contentious information with diplomacy and in a confidential manner.

Adopt a flexible attitude to meet the needs of the surgery service, taking into consideration the diverse needs of other individuals.

Promote an open, friendly, inclusive working environment.

Training and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • 5 GCSEs or equivalent which must include English and Maths
  • RSA 3 in word processing or equivalent experience
Desirable criteria
  • NVQ Level 3 Business/Administration or equivalent

  • Ability to prioritise work, be flexible and use initiative
  • Use of correct and appropriate grammar and spelling

Experience

  • Demonstrated admin experience within a previous role
  • Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook
  • Fast and accurate audio typing experience
  • Managing enquiries by telephone, in person and via email
Desirable criteria
  • Healthcare experience, ideally NHS, including clinical systems

Other requirements relevant to the role

  • Must be able to work on site between the core hours of 08:00 - 17:00
