NUH Education Centre is a centre of excellence for multiprofessional learning and education and is a regional centre for advanced clinical simulation-based education as well as offering a range of clinical skills based teaching for local and regional NHS staff. Our educational activities include teaching programmes related to patient safety, Human Factors and team training.
This is an exciting time to join our team as Simulation Education Fellow and would be suited to a doctor who has successfully completed their Foundation training or Basic Specialist training and who is interested in a career in medical education. The post is 4 days a week, providing opportunity for one day a week of clinical work in a speciality of choice, subject to discussions and agreements in advance.
Working alongside our expert simulation team, you will develop personal skills around writing, developing and delivering simulation based teaching, and debriefing skills.
You will be responsible for organising teaching programmes and programme evaluation, working with multiprofessional colleagues to ensure programmes meet learner needs.

You will have the opportunity to develop and extend your knowledge and practice in research methodology that applies to educational practice or outcomes and /or Human Factors. It is expected that activity undertaken whilst in post will result in providing presentations to local, national meetings,and publication of abstracts and papers.

You will work with Centre clinical education lead and multiprofessional Simulation Education team to develop and deliver high quality multiprofessional simulation and skills based education to doctors in training, medical students, nurses and allied health professionals.

Take a lead role in the development and achievement of education research projects related to educational excellence and application to practice to support delivery of safe practice.

Actively contribute to the design, development, piloting and evaluation of course programmes including technology enhanced learning. This will include taking a lead role in quality assurance of advanced simulation programmes, ensuring courses respond to changing learner needs and curricula/commissioner requirements.

Contribute to the organisation of regular departmental research and “journal club‘ meetings for simulation teaching and patient safety/human factors

You will have the opportunity to undertake a postgraduate certificate in medical education (start autumn 2026) of which 50% funding is available, up to a maximum of £2000.

Training and Qualifications

- MBBS or equivalent
- Full GMC Registration with a License to Practise
- Completed Foundation training in a UKFPO by time of appointment or equivalent
- Evidence of satisfactory / more than satisfactory progress through training, including an Outcome 1 at Annual Review of Competence Progression (ARCP)
- Evidence of clinical competencies in your specialty appropriate for your stage in training

- 12 months working as a doctor in the UK in an acute medical or surgical speciality

- Enthusiastic and experienced in teaching clinical skills in the workplace or training environment
