Job overview
An opportunity has arisen to join our senior nursing team on Bestwood Ward, City Campus within HCOP as a Band 7 Ward Manager for applicants with a Professional Registration in Nursing and preferably Therapy and who have a passion to inspire and motivate others to provide high quality safe patient focussed care.
Bestwood is based on the City Hospital Campus of the St Francis Unit. Our older adult patients have come through the Frailty Pathway of QMC and are deemed medically safe for discharge. We are a unique ward where nursing staff contribute to the delivery of a re-enablement nursing model of care with our older adult patients. By empowering patients, giving permission and providing opportunities to participate in their physical and social environment we are able to improve their skills, confidence and independence. You will work closely with the nursing team and our Therapy colleagues to improve clinical outcomes by focusing on reducing dependency on carers, decreasing hospital length of stay, and improving the patient experience during their hospital stay. There is a strong focus on supporting safe and timely discharges from hospital and preventing readmissions.
Main duties of the job
As the Ward Manager you will be in charge of the ward and ensuring that the standards and quality of care given to patients, together with the environment in which care is delivered, are maintained at a high standard.
Be an effective leader and role model and will be expected to provide regular direct clinical care and use experience to support the implementation of both clinical and non-clinical governance.
Work flexibly as a member of the ward team to support and ensure standards are being maintained, evaluated, and where necessary improved.
The successful applicant should be motivated and have the ability to inspire staff and have previous experience and evidence of implementing changes and embedding good practice into the culture of our department. It is essential that you are able to work as part of the multi-disciplinary team demonstrating excellent communication and interpersonal skills with an ability to support the development of the service. The successful applicant needs to have excellent organisation and time management skills with an aptitude for problem solving. You must have excellent clinical knowledge and skills, demonstrate flexibility and a willingness to work long days across the week and within a fast growing and exciting speciality setting.
