We are looking to recruit a Band 7 clinically credible midwife with a broad range of midwifery experience. ( Although this job is at 20 hours as a B7 we can also consider other hours alongside this role as a B6) You will utilise your excellent clinical skills to support the community teams to deliver high quality care and be open to embracing positive change and transformation in order to meet the needs of the women in the local population. The post holder will play a key part of the development and transformation of the Maternity Service in line with the recommendations set out in Better Births. You will need to be self -motivated, dynamic, enthusiastic and be an effective communicator. You must possess a distinct passion for the community midwifery service and a drive for ongoing learning and development.
The post holder is responsible for the support and co-ordination of a multi-professional team within the community, providing an interlinked, supportive network across the maternity service and wider Trust.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The post holder will work with the Matron for community together with the established team of Band 7 community team managers and colleagues as part of the leadership team. The post holder will be expected to manage sickness, performance and improvements.
You need to be a car user and have a vehicle available for work use.

Essential criteria
- Registered and practicing midwife.
- Diploma / Degree or evidence of continuing professional development
- Car Driver / Owner
- Teaching and assessing qualification or evidence of a mentoring course
Desirable criteria
- Management qualification / training
- Leadership course
- Research training / experience
Experience
Essential criteria
- Competent in all areas of midwifery practice
- Proven ability to work inter-professionally with all members of the multi-disciplinary team and external agencies.
- Previous experience of change management.
- Involvement in midwifery practice development.
- band 6 experience of 2+ years
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of leading a team/teams.
- Evidence of leading a community team
- Experience of working in a community setting
Communication and relationship
Essential criteria
- Can demonstrate a passion for leadership and an ability to develop excellence in midwifery practice.
- Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrate basic IT skills using word, excel and powerpoint
Desirable criteria
- participation on audit and/or research
- Evidence of ability to manage conflict appropriately.
- Evidence of dealing with complaints
Analytical and Judgement

- Ability to assess, plan and implement action based on a specific need, both client and staff focussed

- Will be required to adhere to the Trust policy for Manual Handling
- Frequent use of VDU equipment and keyboard.
Other requirements
Essential criteria
- Ability to work night on calls to cover management on-calls
- Full driving licence, with access to a car for business use.
- Ability to travel across all sites and to a range of different venues as required
Planning and Organisational Skills
Essential criteria
- Able to prioritise and has effective time management skills
- Able to consider workforce planning, over a 24/7 period and anticipate service needs
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of being a manager on-call
