The post holder will work within the Maternity Education Team and deliver the education objectives of the Perinatal Health Directorate, understanding that the service is in a period of transformation.

The Clinical Educator will be a proactive role-model that delivers a programme of education and supports practice development; clinical education and workforce transformation across the Perinatal Directorate.
Supports leadership and gives advice and support, fostering a learning culture that values high quality patient care, evidence-based practice, research and innovation.
Works in partnership with the practice development leads, clinical leads, senior midwives and nurses, matrons, and other colleagues within the Directorate to deliver effective strategies to enhance staff satisfaction, engagement, improved retention and multi-disciplinary team working to achieve agreed common goals and outcomes.
Ensures the highest standards of education, research, and clinical care are in place and in collaboration with the trust and practice development leads implements, maintains and evaluates systems and processes, which ensure standards, are maintained.
A clinically credible practitioner, the post holder will utilise their clinical experience and related skills to provide support for all staff and demonstrate a commitment to the development Directorate priorities.
The post holder will contribute to developing clinical practice to promote high quality care. They may work some of their time within the clinical setting supporting learning and establishing change in practice.
Educators will be responsible for equipment management and effective use of learning resources.

Job summary

Key Job Responsibilities
1. Be responsible for the development, delivery and evaluation of clinical education for role related and mandatory training within the Directorate.
2. Be a visible role model and point of contact for staff and students working in practice.
3. Promote reflective practice and learning opportunities developing a learning culture in the clinical environment.
4. Contribute to clinical guidelines and protocols where appropriate. Support the Practice Development Midwives in the implementation and evaluation of maternity policies and procedures.
Managerial
5. Maintain quality standards in education in accordance with the policies, procedures, guidelines and practices of Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust.
6. Manage individual workload and meet the objectives of the Maternity Education Team.
7. Participate in Maternity Education team initiatives and development to sustain purpose and direction for the team. Contribute to the creation of a positive team and working environment, have an awareness of flexible working.
8. In conjunction with the PDMs identify and minimise interpersonal conflicts that may affect team or individual performance.
9. Contribute to the monitoring and effective use of education resources.
10. Convey and present information, written or verbal, formally or informally, as part of an education programme.
11. Contribute the effective management of change in response to clinical or organisation demands.
Professional
12. Take opportunities to be a representative at a local level and participate as a member of the senior nursing and midwifery team within the directorate, making positive contributions to the strategic planning of the service.
13. Ensure that continuing professional development is available for staff and promote robust pathways so that the required level of knowledge and competence is maintained and achieved.
14. Provide an authoritative and credible source of knowledge and specialist clinical advice/information to the wider maternity team.
15. Take an active role in self-development, objectively reviewing own performance in terms of management, clinical practice and decision making. Identify own needs and take appropriate steps to meet those needs. Keep abreast of clinical and professional developments and be able to demonstrate this in accordance with NMC requirements and clinical practice.
16. Establish and maintain professional networks with educators across the trust and relevant education providers and organisations.
17. In conjunction with professional colleagues encourage and facilitate multi-disciplinary training and education.
Directorate Specific
18. Understand and contribute to data collection systems to maintain compliance data for education and training.
19. Assist in the development of a planned programme of role related and mandatory training.
20. Assist staff to complete competency packages.
21. Assist midwives to comply with NMC regulation by supporting revalidation.
22. Assist in educational audits as required.
23. Act as an advocate for the woman, the baby and the families ensuring that their best interests come first.
Facilitate a positive infant-feeding culture and support ‘Baby Friendly’ status of maternity units at NUH.
