Specialist Clinical Pharmacist - Hepato-pancreato-biliary

An opportunity has arisen to join the pharmacy team as a Specialist Clinical Pharmacist - hepato-pancreato-biliary (HPB), covering the absence of the permanent staff member whilst they go on maternity leave. 

You will lead the pharmacy service provision to hepato-pancreato-biliary patients at NUH.  The Nottingham HPB Service is both a local and regional tertiary referral centre for all aspects of HPB disease and we are a centre of excellence for laparoscopic (keyhole) HPB surgery

The job will be based at Queens Medical Centre where you will work as part of the MDT providing high quality medicines reconciliation and pharmaceutical knowledge. The post holder will work with the other members of the MDT to perform medicines optimisation, including deprescribing and prevention of harm from inappropriate polypharmacy.  You would also be involved in improving prescribing and reducing risks within the wider healthcare team in your given area.

In addition the post holder will also work within the wider pharmacy surgical team, receiving and giving support to the other team members and trainees.

a.    To lead, deliver and develop clinical pharmacy services to the gastroenterology speciality within NUH. To implement medicines management policies and ensure the safe, clinically effective and cost-efficient use of medicines in this service/speciality in accordance with national priorities and local objectives.

b.    To provide patients and members of the multidisciplinary team with information about new drugs and developments to facilitate their safe and effective use.

c.    To provide a clinical pharmacy service to inpatient ward areas

  • GPhC registered

Experience

  • Extensive hospital pharmacy experience (post registration)
  • Broad knowledge base of wide clinical areas
  • Experience of delivering clinical pharmacy service and advice relating to the safe use of medicines
  • Experience of leadership and management skills
  • Experience of developing and implementing medicines and service related policies for a specialty

  • Experience of project management, with evidence of completed outcomes
  • Experience in undertaking, supervising and reporting/presenting audit / research work at local (Trust) level
  • Experience of leading and delivering a clinical pharmacy service to a specialty

Analytical and Judgment skills

  • Experience of assessing and minimising risk associated with service provision and within medication processes
  • Ability to work alone and make decisions within agreed parameters and appropriate referral / escalation as necessary
  • Experience in making judgements involving highly complex facts, which require analysis, interpretation and options appraisal
  • Ability to maintain and monitor database of medicines and activity related information e.g. medicines expenditure and usage; rotas etc
  • Able to critically analyse information and evidence and to communicate the findings clearly in simple terms

Planning and Organisation Skills

  • Ability to plan and organise existing and new clinical pharmacy services to a specialty. This may include creation and adjustment of plans based on research
  • Ability to be flexible and manage change in a complex and changing healthcare environment
  • Self-motivated with excellent organisational skills, able to motivate others, to manage time effectively and work to deadlines, even when under pressure
  • Positive thinker, problem solver, ability to think laterally to develop new ideas

Physical skills

  • Good level of computer literacy and word processing /keyboard skills.
  • Sound MS Teams, Word, Excel and Power- point skills and be able to retrieve information from the internet.
