There is an exciting opportunity to join the Respiratory Medicine Physiotherapy team at the City campus of NUH, working specifically across the Haematology and Renal services.
The role is for a band 6 physiotherapist to join a well-established, friendly and dynamic team for 50 weeks to cover maternity leave. This is a new band 6 role within the team and would be ideal for an existing band 6 looking to consolidate their knowledge and skills when working with patients who have complex, long-term medical conditions. Due to the size of the team and the training opportunities available this role would also be suitable for an experienced band 5 with relevant inpatient mileage who may be considering a career in inpatient services.
The successful candidate will be responsible for their own inpatient caseload as well as supporting band 5 therapists and band 2-4 support workers in their established roles within haematology & renal. The successful candidate will also be expected to help lead the Bone Marrow Transplant rehab programme as this returns to NUH post Covid-19. Experience in leading class-based exercise groups would be beneficial.
The successful candidate must be competent in assessing and treating patients with respiratory needs and be comfortable in providing training and teaching to those less confident. They are expected to work on the respiratory out-of-hours rota at City campus, which includes late shifts (until 9pm), on-calls and weekend work. You are also expected to assist in up-skilling other staff so that they may join the aforementioned rota.
The successful candidate will be expected to work 150 hours per month (37.5 hours / week) across 4 long days per week, as well as 1 weekend day every 4 weeks, an on call approximately every 6 weeks and 2 bank holidays a year to support the through-flow of the Trust.
NUH has a strong working relationship with the University of Nottingham and the successful candidate is expected to supervise students from UoN and Sheffield. Experience with students is preferred but not essential. The successful candidate is expected to attend a course on clinical education if not already qualified.
This role would be ideal for a highly motivated professional who has an interest in working within inpatient care and who has an interest in haematology and renal conditions. You should be on-call competent and happy to lead a small weekend team covering all respiratory specialities as well as deputising for a band 7 and leading a larger team and working flexibly as needed.
You will need to be able to communicate with a wide variety of patients, carers and fellow NHS workers.
You are expected to be kind & caring, in keeping with the Trust’s Values & Behaviours. You would also need to be organised and proficient with telephone conversation and basic IT skills.
You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
