Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a band 4 Therapy Assistant Practitioner  to join our existing Occupational and Physiotherapy teams working in the Nottingham Treatment Centre on the QMC Campus.  The postholder will  see patients in the elective orthopaedic pathway.

Some clerical and administration tasks will also be undertaken (e.g. keeping records, filing, photocopying).  The post holder will be expected to work independently, and training will be provided to support development towards competencies appropriate to this post.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with previous experience as a therapy or rehabilitation assistant in an NHS or care setting.

 

Main duties of the job

Responsible for assessment and treatment of patients in the elective orthopaedic pathway at the Treatment Centre. Including management of patient flow through surgical day case and surgical short stay units; pre-operative assessment, provision of walking aids and other equipment, fitting of lower limb braces, mobility assessments and liaison with MDT.

Involvement in assessment and treatment of post-operative elective hand patients which may  include fabrication of splinting following appropriate training.

Responsible for maintaining and ordering stock consumables for both physiotherapy and occupational therapy teams at the treatment centre.

Recent experience working as an OT, physiotherapy or critical care support worker is desirable, but not essential.

This role can be physically demanding and involves direct patient care in support of and under the supervision of registered staff, including assisting with patient transfers, mobilisation and limb focussed exercise plans. 

This job will require you to work with inpatients; therefore you will be required to wear the appropriate level of PPE when required.

Training & Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • GCSE English and Maths - Level 4 or Grade C or equivalent
  • NVQ/QCF level 3 in healthcare or equivalent relevant qualification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant experience of working as a therapy support worker (band 3)
  • To have an ability to deal with pressurised/unexpected situations
  • To have experience of working in a relevant healthcare setting

Communication & Relationship Skills

  • To have effective written, verbal and non-verbal communication skills
  • To have an ability to communicate with patients who have impaired communication abilities
  • To have the ability to empathise with and motivate others
