Locum Consultant Plastic Surgeon (with interest in Breast Microsurgery & Lower Limb Trauma)

We are excited to announce a Full-time Locum Consultant Plastic Surgeon with responsibilities in Plastic Surgery Services at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust. 

This is a new locum post for 12 months with a scope of getting converted and re-advertised as a substantive post in the future.

 

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be able to support provision of clinical services in our expanding Breast microsurgical reconstruction and Orthoplastic services. In addition, support of skin cancer service in an affiliated Trust will also form part of the job. The elective Plastic Surgery services including Breast microsurgery service are based at City Hospital Campus and the Orthoplastic Service is based at Queens Medical Centre (QMC) Campus of Nottingham University Hospitals (NUH) NHS Trust, the skin cancer programmed activities are delivered in Ilkeston Community Hospital (Derbyshire) as part of Service Level Agreements (SLAs).

The Job Description for this role is provisional and not fixed and may be subject to changes in response to service demands and clinical needs over the tenure of the locum vacancy but will retain a primary focus to support delivery of specialist services as described above.

Professional Registration

Essential criteria
  • Full GMC
  • Eligible to be included on the Specialist Register
  • CCT / CESR expected within 6 months of interview date.

Professional Qualifications/Development

Essential criteria
  • FRCS (Plast) or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • Higher professional degree

Clinical skills / experience

Essential criteria
  • Evidenced technical skills as described in the job description.
  • Fellowship level experience or equivalent in Breast Microsurgery
  • Evidenced technical skills as described in the job description. Fellowship level experience or equivalent in Breast Microsurgery Able to communicate effectively and appropriately with patients, their families and other health professionals.
Desirable criteria
  • Fellowship level experience or equivalent in Orthoplastic reconstruction. Specific training in communication skills Specific training in patient safety and/or human factors

Management skills

Essential criteria
  • Able to develop, present and operationalise coherent ideas for service development/delivery. Able to delegate appropriately. Able to work in a team.
Desirable criteria
  • Higher management degree, qualification, or training Experience of change management

Other

Essential criteria
  • Able to work flexibly in a changing health service. Able to use the Trust’s IT support systems. Evidence of participation in Clinical Audit. Able to teach and support junior staff effectively. Ability to travel between City Hospital Campus and Queen’s Medical Centre campus.
Desirable criteria
  • Higher Research Degree Original Research Publications Lecturer / Demonstrator level or Higher Teaching Experience Higher teaching degree, qualification, or training
