Job overview
We are looking for a passionate individual, who has a keen interest in our patient groups and are willing to help the respiratory, sleep and NIV services continue to recover and grow from the implications that have come on the back of the global pandemic.
Short listed candidates will be contacted prior to interview with the title of a scenario based question to present as an MSTeams presentation as part of the interview process.
Main duties of the job
We are delighted to offer an opportunity for a suitable candidate to join the teams as a Highly Specialised Respiratory, Sleep and NIV Physiologist. This role will involve working in all aspects of our lung function, sleep and NIV services, to be able to support diagnosis and in some cases initiate and review the delivery of treatment.
For interested applicants we can provide the opportunity to develop within the team and become involved in training and to gain leadership skills.
Working for our organisation
Our lung function services are busy dynamic services spread across two main acute hospital sites; compromising Nottingham University Hospitals. The trust supports over 12,000 patients receiving therapy for sleep apnea and also more specific ventilation support for other patient groups. Under normal circumstances we perform more than 2,000 lung function investigations per year. You will be joining established teams within NUH who have recently become aligned under new leadership.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
You will possess a good Bsc in Physiology or the equivalent and have or are willing to gain the ARTP practitioner qualifications in lung function and sleep.
Your skills will be most useful but not exclusive in providing leadership to the team of junior sleep physiologists. The opportunities to personally develop would be accommodated, this could be applied to higher education we would welcome applicants with an interest to join the HSST program

Essential criteria
- Bsc in Respiratory Physiology or equivalent
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of attendance to BTS/ERS/ARTP conferences
- ARTP parts 1 and 2
Qualifications and Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience of performing CPAP initiation and reviews
- Experience of performing NIV initiation and reviews
- Experience at performing CPET testing
Desirable criteria
- Ability to recognise acceptable respiratory physiological results from those caused by poor technique, effort or understanding.
- line management experience of junior respiratory / sleep physiologists
Qualifications and Experience
Essential criteria
- Working at a band 6 physiologist level in respiratory and sleep / NIV
Desirable criteria
- Experience in staff development and training
