Safeguarding Midwifery Team Leader

A great opportunity has arisen for a registered professional with high level experience in safeguarding to join the safeguarding midwifery team at NUH, the post will be a band 7, 30 hours per week substantive post.

The post holder will work in conjunction with the Trust wide Safeguarding Team to deliver a high quality service of safeguarding expertise to the Trust. They will provide professional advice, support and education to the multi-professional team, patient and carers and ensure that the Trust meets statutory safeguarding requirements

Work in conjunction with the safeguarding leads for Adults/ Children and Midwifery to implement a Trust wide safeguarding training strategy.

To implement the education and training across the Trust with the support of the Safeguarding team.

There will be an opportunity to develop leadership skills. Our team is supportive and dedicated to the delivery of effective safe care

To deliver a high quality service of safeguarding expertise, provide professional advice, support and education to the multi-professional team, patient and carers with their specialist service.

Convey and present complex information written and verbal, formally and informally as appropriate. Ensure that when applicable information is maintained and kept in an appropriate place.

He/she/they will work together with Named Professionals in the development of evidence based patient care policies and procedures/audit;

To implement the education and training across the Trust.

To record, monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the Safeguarding training strategy, ensuring all staff has access to the level of education and training required.

The post holder will work as a member of the Midwifery Safeguarding team to support the delivery of services to staff involved in the safeguarding of unborn/babies and children, including supporting liaison between hospital and community services.

The post holder will act as a resource for members of the multidisciplinary team and facilitate an environment of learning to promote the development of staff, and will also support Mandatory Safeguarding training and safeguarding children supervision.

The post holder is responsible for implementing national recommendations and guidance for good practice in conjunction with the Named Midwife for Safeguarding.

Training Qualifications - Academic / Craft / Professional

  • Educated to post graduate degree level and have extensive specialist knowledge and expertise of Safeguarding Unborn, new-born babies and children.
  • Registered Midwife with the NMC
  • Evidence of continued professional development, including multi agency training in safeguarding children and young people. Level 3
  • Relevant training to enable the delivery of Safeguarding Supervision to midwives and midwifery support workers.
  • Willing to undergo training as necessary

  • Health related Masters degree
  • IMR author training / Investigation training.
  • Safeguarding Leadership / Management Course
  • Evidence of Safeguarding Training at Level 4

Physical requirements

  • A combination of sitting, standing and walking.
  • Requirement for light physical effort for short periods during the course of the working day. Travel to external meeting sas required.
  • The post holder is required to use a VDU
  • Will come into contact with patients at times of incidences where they may be hostile and verbally or physically aggressive. Ability to cope with and defuse such situations.

Experience

  • Demonstrable knowledge and understanding of the NHS its culture and future changes
  • Significant Post registration experience of working in a safeguarding midwifery team, including attending multi agency meetings and escalating cases internally and external agencies
  • Understanding of working with families with sensitive and multiple complex needs.
  • Experience in the delivery of safeguarding supervision
  • Skilled in Multi-agency assessments and working together with partner agencies for the purpose of safeguarding unborn babies, children and vulnerable adults.
  • Developing, providing and evaluating safeguarding training and education
  • Principles underpinning effective safeguarding practice including current legislation, statutory guidance and assessment processes
  • Knowledge of diversity, inclusivity and equality issues and their application in safeguarding practice
  • Knowledge and promotion of best practice through clinical governance mechanisms.
  • Significant experience in understanding and managing Domestic Abuse.
