Work alongside registered nurses to provide individualised care.  

Supporting new starters and students.  

Working with the MDT to ensure safe transfer or discharge of our patients. 

To maintain clinical competence through CPD and mandatory training requirements.

To ensure clear and timely record keeping of all assessments and care provided

Maintain good communication with patients and their relatives including the MDT

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder will support  Registered Nurses in ensuring the delivery of high quality patient/client care upholding dignity, delivered with kindness and compassion.

You will provide and monitor the nursing care for a designated group of patients/clients during a care episode.

You will be able to work independently, within your scope of practice, to provide support to patients throughout their cancer pathway. This includes at the point of diagnosis through to palliation. 

Undertaking eHNA assessments with the support of the Registered Nurses and provide appropriate support or signposting as needed is an important part of the role.

Communication with the multidisciplinary team is essential in order to promote efficient patient care and maintain effective channels of communication. 

Actively contribute to an effective learning environment and support others in the MDT with their learning.

You must maintain your own professional competence through ongoing professional development and be accountable for your own professional practice and professional revalidation in accordance with The Code (NMC 2015).

Training & Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nursing Associate on the NMC register

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working with patients with Cancer
  • Understand the scope of the role of the Nursing Associate
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working with patients with sarcoma
  • Demonstrate an involvement in link nurse, or project work

Communication and Relationship Skills

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Recognition of own level of competence and limitations and able to communicate these to appropriate staff

Analytical and Judgement Skills

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrate an ability to contribute to the assessment, planning and delivery of patient care
  • Knowledge of when to seek advice and escalate to the appropriate professional for expert help and advice

Planning and Organisation Skills

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrate an ability to prioritise own workload
  • Ability to recognise, prioritise and respond appropriately to urgent and emergency situations
Desirable criteria
  • Demonstrate an ability to supervise and support others

Physical Skills

Essential criteria
  • Able to manoeuvre equipment in line with trust policies and procedures
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of moving and handling training
