Main duties of the job
The Clinical Pathway & Quality Lead is an advanced-level specialist role within the multidisciplinary Nottingham Auditory Implant Programme. The post holder will be an Audiologist or Speech & Language Therapist with highly developed specialist knowledge and extensive practical experience across their professional area and in the field of cochlear implantation. Approximately 70% of the role will involve direct clinical practice, with duties tailored to the post holder’s profession.
The post holder will lead on quality assurance, clinical governance, and pathway development across the Service to ensure safe, effective, patient-centred care aligned with local and national standards.
Working closely with the Head of Service and other clinical leads, the post holder will significantly contribute to service delivery models, strategic planning, research, education, and professional development. The role requires collaboration and liaison with a wide range of professionals and agencies within the UK. The post holder will provide clinical supervision and mentoring to qualified staff, trainees, and students, and is expected to maintain up-to-date professional knowledge and skills.

Experience
Essential criteria
- Extensive experience working with deaf children and adults managing highly complex and non-routine cases
- Extensive experience of working with cochlear implants
- Experience of quality assurance and improvement, risk management, clinical governance and safeguarding processes when working with hearing impairment (adults and children)Experience of supervision and teaching
- Experience and knowledge of the application of Quality Standards, National Service Specifications, NICE guidance and compliance required at a departmental, local and national level
- Experience of delivering training and presentations at local and regional level Experience of giving presentations at a national level
Desirable criteria
- Experience of the IQIPS accreditation process
- Experience at a professional level, working for a professional body, national committee or similar
Training & Qualifications
Essential criteria
- MSc or equivalent in Speech and Language Therapy or Audiology
- Registered with AHCS/HCPC/RCCP
Desirable criteria
- Management or Leadership Qualification
Communication and Relationship Skills
Essential criteria
- Fluent English speaking
- The ability to communicate effectively with and command confidence among senior healthcare scientists, consultants, clinical colleagues and managers within and connected to the Service.
- Ability to achieve effective communication with all relevant individuals, relatives and/or patients with complex hearing difficulties, in order to communicate highly complex and sensitive information and maximise rehabilitation potential and ensure understanding of the condition and therapeutic process.
- Excellent written communication skills
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working through interpreters
Analytical and Judgement Skills
Essential criteria
- Ability to make complex judgements and decisions involving multifaceted information that requires analysis and interpretation.
- Good level of IT skills, including the use of a broad range of relevant audiological software and general IT systems such as Microsoft Office applications.
