The Sterile Services Department is part of the Science & Technology Directorate which provides a variety of Scientific, Technical and Clinical services to support activities across the Trust.
The position requires a strategic approach to the development of services and structures, embracing continuous quality improvement and the management of change necessary to achieve the Trust’s objectives.

Main duties of the job
Working with a vision of “delivering excellence in all we do” the post holder will work with the Directorate Leadership Team in conjunction with the Divisional Leadership Team to manage their service to achieve the best patient care.
The post holder will provide direct senior leadership and management to the Sterile Services team.
The post holder will also be accountable for the management and delivery of the decontamination and sterilisation services of the Trust and the lead for the on-going compliance with the relevant accreditation standards.
The position requires a strategic approach to the development of services and structures, embracing continuous quality improvement and the management of change necessary to achieve the Trust’s objectives.

The post holder will be required to act as professional lead for the Trust, providing expert advice on decontamination issues as required, working with colleagues, multi-disciplinary teams and service users to improve systems and processes to ensure they are responsive to service needs.
In undertaking the duties for this post the post holder must comply with the Department of Health’s code of conduct for NHS Managers (October 2002).
The post holder will be based at Queen’s Medical Centre Campus with occasional working at City Hospital Campus.
Working for our organisation
The Sterile Services department at NUH undertakes the decontamination of surgical instrument trays for over 50 operating theatres. It is the largest NHS Sterile Services Department in England, by volume, processing approximately 15,000 trays and sets per month. The service is split across two sites with the main decontamination facility being located at the QMC campus and a receipt and distribution hub being located at the City campus.
The Trust’s various Endoscopy decontamination units are split across both campuses, supporting the ever increasing clinical endoscopy services.

Training and Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Masters degree in a relevant field or an equivalent level of experience
- Evidence of other specialist management training to diploma level or the equivalent level of experience in an operational management role.
- Evidence of continued professional development.
- Decontamination qualification e.g. Technical Certificate/HTM Manager course/Endoscope Decontamination Manager Course
- Member of a Professional Decontamination Body (IDSc, CSC, NPAG)
Desirable criteria
- Registration (HCPC or an appropriate accredited register) in a HCS specialism
- IDSc Chartered Membership
- Lead/internal audit qualified (13485:2016 preferable)
Experience
Essential criteria
- Significant experience at a management level including project management, business planning, change management, multidisciplinary working, financial management, human resource management and performance management.
- Expert knowledge and understanding of the legislation relating to decontamination of medical devices.
- Evidence of having achieved challenging targets in relation to service provision, quality management and financial management.
- Experience of supporting programmes of change in a complex organisation
- Experience of managing and leading a large team.
- Experience of quality systems and auditing procedures
- Significant Sterile Services and Endoscope Decontamination management experience.
Desirable criteria
- Management of Sterile Services and Endoscope decontamination providing services to multiple locations across a city or region.
- Management of several decontamination facilities at multi-site locations

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
