Job overview
Applications are invited for the above post at the Queen's Medical Centre campus of Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust, for a 12 month fixed term position from April 2026. The successful applicant will work in the Orthopaedic Trauma unit at the Queen's Medical Centre Campus, which is the busiest Major Trauma Centre in the United Kingdom and likely serves a population within the East Midlands region of England estimated to be around 4.8 million people. The post is designed to support the successful candidate to bridge the gap between higher surgical training and a substantive consultant appointment, with a significant trauma element. Daytime responsibilities include supporting trauma operating theatres, fracture clinics and day on-call duties. The department offers all aspects of complex orthopaedic trauma surgery, including limb reconstruction, orthopaedic trauma surgery and pelvic and acetabular surgery.

Main duties of the job
- In-patient accountabilities require assessment and management of emergency referrals for injured patients from the Emergency Department along with other route of admission (from clinic or direct transfer) under the direction of responsible consultant
- Routine ward responsibilities, transfer and discharge summaries, and operating theatre duties are a key component of the Senior Trauma Fellow role
- Out-patient responsibilities will include orthopaedic fracture clinics
- Teaching medical and other students as required
- To undertake audit and other quality improvement projects to enhance the delivery of care
- To get involved in research leading to publication

The successful candidate with be working at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust (NUH), which is the 4th largest acute UK Trust

We are at the forefront of many research programmes and new surgical procedures. In addition we host the NIHR Nottingham Clinical Research Facility and one of the 14 commissioned NIHR HealthTec Research Centres. We will also be undertaking research at the new National Rehabilitation Centre.
Fifteen Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeons are actively involved in the adult in-patient and out-patient Trauma and Orthopaedic service. The successful candidates will work at both the QMC and the Treatment Centre. Children’s trauma and orthopaedics for Nottingham is carried out at Queen’s Medical Centre (QMC) under the care of five consultant orthopaedic surgeons. There are six orthopaedic hand surgeons based at QMC who run an acute hand take shared with the plastic surgeons
