An exciting opportunity has arisen for a 9 month fixed term position as Assistant psychologist within the CAMHS Clayfield's health team
The post holder will support the clinical psychology provision to undertake assessment, consultation and intervention within Clayfields house. Intervention will involve working directly with the young people and also working alongside the Principle Clinical Psychologist to support staff via delivery of consultation, reflective practice and training.
Clayfield's House is a national provider of secure accommodation for 20 young people between the ages of 10 to 18 who are on remand, sentenced, placed on welfare grounds or are secure overnight under PACE 1984 legislation. The service is part of Nottinghamshire County Council.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will support the clinical psychology provision to undertake assessment, consultation and intervention within Clayfields house. Intervention will involve working directly with the young people and also working alongside the Principle Clinical Psychologist to support staff via delivery of consultation, reflective practice and training.
The post holder will support the collation and analysis of data evaluating the effectiveness of psychological based interventions within Clayfields house. As part of this evaluation the post holder will contribute to reports and presentations for Clayfields house.
Liaison with a broad range of other disciplines and agencies including health, education, social care, and voluntary services will be a key aspect of this post. The post holder will attend meetings about the young people and offer input.
The post holder will work under the close supervision of the principle Clinical Psychologist and Operational Lead and within the Trust’s and Local Authority’s policies and procedures.

Please note applicants will be required to pay for their DBS check. Costs are deducted from salary following appointment. The cost of the DBS application is £26.40 (standard) or £54.40 (enhanced), this cost will be deducted from your salary over the first 2 months of employment.

Essential criteria
- Excellent IT skills
- To be able to utilise a set of keys and heavy doors and maintain security at Clayfields.
- To be able to attend Trust Breakaway training.
Qualifications
Essential criteria
- • 1st class or Upper second class honours degree in Psychology and ability to demonstrate eligibility to graduate membership of the BPS.
Desirable criteria
- Further relevant post-graduate training (e.g. in clinical or other applied Psychology discipline or neurosciences).
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience of working within a secure setting.
- Experience of working as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Experience of working with young people who have experienced trauma and/or with mental health difficulties (and their families/carers).
- Experience of participating in supervision.
- Experience of delivering group or individual work
Desirable criteria
- • To have worked with young people who offend
- • Experience of report writing
- • Experience of dissemination of research
- • Experience of delivering questionnaires or standardised psychometric tests (such as the testing of cognition).
- • Experience of presentations, publications or teaching/training delivery.
- • Experience of completing risk assessments.
- • Research and Audit skills to evidence the efficacy of specialist interventions.
Knowledge and skills
Essential criteria
- • Have a working understanding of child and adolescent development.
- • Knowledge of psychological theory of attachment and developmental trauma.
- • Ability to apply existing psychological knowledge to help make sense of a presentation/behaviour.
- • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) and the ability to adapt communication with individuals with cognitive, communication & sensory difficulties.
- • Good organisational skills and an ability to work well to deadlines.
- • Ability to accept and use supervision appropriately and effectively; (reflective practice / learning/ safety)
- • Ability to work independently, reliably and consistently with regular supervision.
- • Ability to maintain appropriate professional boundaries.
- • Research and audit skills. Knowledge of research design and methodology including quantitative and qualitative methods.
- • Skills in using databases/ spreadsheets and statistical analysis/
Desirable criteria
- • Knowledge of child related psychometric tests
- • Knowledge around neurodiversity such as ASD and ADHD.
