Job overview
The delivery of pastoral, spiritual and religious care to patients and staff at Highbury Hospital and in other Trust establishments as necessary such as Wells Road Centre, Hopewood, Thorneywood Mount and Lings Bar.
The role requires 2 Chaplains with appropriate training, experience and qualifications who will work alongside Multi-Disciplinary Teams (MDTs) and within a Multi-Faith Chaplaincy Team. The Chaplains will work collaboratively with the team, under the supervision of the Chaplaincy Team Manager. The role may also require the chaplains to work in other areas of the Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust.
Main duties of the job
To develop and maintain communication with external units, in order to promote good patient care.
To communicate regularly with both patients and patients’ significant others about issues relating to their spiritual and religious wellbeing.
To promote effective communication between Chaplaincy and members of the Clinical Team, in order to enhance patient care.
To develop and maintain such records as required and requested in the operation of the service, and meeting relevant guidelines.
Maintain strict patient confidentiality at all times.
To develop communication with other departments within the Trust, building effective working partnerships to deliver the highest standards of care.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
· To provide direct spiritual and pastoral care to patients and staff of many faiths, and of no faith, as requested.
· To assess spiritual and religious needs of new patients.
· Individual pastoral care and bereavement support for patients.
· To plan and lead worship as required.
· To provide or arrange sacramental support to patients of different denominations in the Christian tradition.
· To ensure relevant interaction with patients is appropriately recorded in patients notes.
· To ensure Chaplaincy standards are met.
· To deputise for the Chaplaincy Team Manager in his absence.
· General visitation of wards and workshops.
· To advise and support clinical staff in supporting the spiritual and pastoral care needs of patients.
· To attend Care Planning meetings and Clinical Team meetings as appropriate as part of the MDT.
· To assist in the provision of ongoing training in Spiritual and Pastoral Care for staff.
· To take a proactive part in promoting the work of multi-faith chaplaincy throughout the hospital.
· To participate in provision of study groups.
· To attend monthly core Chaplaincy Team meetings and multi-faith chaplaincy team meetings and events.
· To participate in the building of links between the chaplaincy and faith communities outside the hospital.
· High secure mental health environment that cares for mentally disordered offenders who are assessed as posing a grave and immediate danger to themselves and the public. This involves being the subject of searching and security procedures, responsibility for keys and working in a restrictive, locked environment.
· Exposure to aggressive behaviour of patients and carers.
Working conditions also include:-
Geographical isolation of the hospital.
Victorian buildings.
Locks, fences and bars.
Inadequate ventilation and temperature control.
Constant observation of staff and patients.
Continual risk of patient assault – verbal and physical.
Exposure to aggressive behaviour of both patients and carers.
Security procedures – searches, patient movement restrictions.
Being alert to emergency security policies and procedures.
Demonstrate an understanding of the need to integrate security requirements within therapeutic activities in the provision of care rehabilitation for patients.
Please note that this post does not meet the pay or skill level required for a Skilled worker visa.
Successful applicants with no prior NHS experience would normally be placed at the bottom of the band in line with Agenda for Change.
