The City Community Mental Health team are a well-established team, offering assessment and treatment for people over the age of 65 with mental health needs and for people of any age with a dementia diagnosis.

The team covers the Nottingham city locality.  Working hours of the team are Monday to Friday, 9am – 5pm.

Please note applicants will be required to pay for their DBS check. Costs are deducted from salary following appointment. The cost of the DBS application is £26.40 (standard) or £54.40 (enhanced), this cost will be deducted from your salary over the first 2 months of employment.

You are encouraged to enrol for the DBS Update Service. An annual fee of £16 per year applies.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will work in a multidisciplinary team to provide comprehensive assessment and interventions which promotes recovery, enabling patients to remain at home and supporting their positive mental and physical wellbeing.

Some of the duties of this job include:

  • To provide an occupational therapy service for older people with complex mental health needs who are referred to the service including providing duty cover for the team.
  • To carry out specialist occupational therapy assessment, goal setting, implementation of treatment programmes and evaluation.
  • To establish the needs of individuals referred to the service and plan care with colleagues from health, social services, families, and the voluntary sector.
  • To represent and promote the specialist role of Occupational Therapy.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • BSc/MSc/Diploma in OT
  • HCPC registration
Desirable criteria
  • Practice Placement Educator APPLE LAPPLE trained

Further Training

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of regular relevant CPD activites

Work Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working with older people with mental health conditions and/or dementia
  • Experience of effective MDT working
Desirable criteria
  • Recent experience of working with older adults with physical conditions
  • Experience of working in the community
  • Service development experience

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Detailed knowledge of physical and mental health needs for older adults
  • Good written, verbal & IT skills with patients, carers and others professionals
  • Ability to undertake specialist OT assessments and assess complex risks with people with mental health conditions
  • Ability to apply the OT process and plan, carry out and evaluate treatment for this client group according to needs and best practice evidence
  • Understanding and aware of equality and diversity including the diverse needs of older adults
  • Effective time management and organisational skills and ability to work under pressure
  • Willingness to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Positive attitude to working with older people with mental health conditions/dementia
  • Positive view of risk enablement and recovery with older adults
Desirable criteria
  • Clinical supervision skills and able to supervise staff/students
  • Ability to undertake initial mental health assessments and experience of care coordination
  • Presentation / teaching skills
