Job overview

We are looking for a motivated and compassionate registered pharmacy technician to join our multidisciplinary team working on an Adult Mental Health inpatient ward, either at Highbury Hospital or Sherwood Oaks (to be discussed at interview).

Main duties of the job

Key responsibilities include:

Supporting medicines administration rounds delivering safe, accurate and timely medicines.

Provide advice on medicines use, storage and compliance.

Promote and implement best practice in medicines optimisation and medicines management.

Reconcile medicines on admission and discharge, ensuring continuity of care.

Educate and support patients in understanding and managing their medication.

Contribute to ward-based audits and quality improvement initiatives.

Work collaboratively with pharmacists, nursing staff and other healthcare professional to improve patient outcomes.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

We are looking for a candidate that is confident in working in a multidisciplinary team environment who is passionate about patient-centred care. You must be organised, adaptable and able to work independently.

You should have post qualification experience working in a hospital environment. Experience in a mental health setting is desirable but not essential as full training and support will be given.

Please note applicants will be required to pay for their DBS check. Costs are deducted from salary following appointment. The cost of the DBS application is £26.40 (standard) or £54.40 (enhanced), this cost will be deducted from your salary over the first 2 months of employment.

You are encouraged to enrol for the DBS Update Service. An annual fee of £16 per year applies.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • GPhC approved Level 3 qualification in Pharmaceutical Sciences plus knowledge and experience of pharmacy and technical procedures
  • Registered Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council
Desirable criteria
  • Accredited Accuracy Checking Qualification.

Training

Essential criteria
  • Previous training in core pharmacy technician roles e.g. labelling, dispensing, accuracy checking
  • Previous medicines optimisation training including Medicines reconciliations training
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of medicines administration in a healthcare setting

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Extensive experience of working in a pharmacy
  • Experience of working within a Medicines Optimisation team in a hospital environment
  • Clear understanding of the role of pharmacy technicians in prescription management
  • Evidence of team working with a MDT
  • Evidence of leading and/or responsible for delivering a service/function/project or development
Desirable criteria
  • Experience working on an inpatient ward
  • Understanding of mental health conditions
  • Experience within mental health setting
  • Experience of patient counselling
