The wider Physical Health Psychology team contributes to a variety of physical health specialties and staff wellbeing. It is well connected with national initiatives in clinical health psychology. Main duties of the job
As Lead Psychologist in the Cancer Psychology Service, you will support the delivery of a full range of psycho-oncology services and projects to patients of Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Trust. You will provide high quality, specialist psychological assessment and therapy for individuals affected by cancer with complex physical and psychological health needs.
You will lead on projects within the team and offer consultation, supervision and training for non-psychologist cancer professionals across health, social care and the voluntary and community sectors, spanning primary and secondary care. You will liaise with Sherwood Forest Cancer Leads to ensure that the service meets the strategic priorities of the organisation, as well as liaising with others in the system to support the delivery of integrated psychological care for cancer patients. You will utilise research skills to contribute to the evaluation of the service, as well as for innovative service developments.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Lead a team of psychologists in cancer services, working with patients and adult family members at all stages of cancer diagnosis and treatment.
Offer specialist assessment and evidence-based treatment for a wide range of cancer-related psychological concerns.
Work closely with cancer MDTs to provide psychological consultation, training and supervision.
Use research skills to inform service developments, evaluate the service and support doctoral projects.
Contribute to regional and national service and strategy developments in psycho-oncology.
Provide clinical supervision and line management to more junior qualified clinical and counselling psychologists in the team.
Support and supervise non-psychology colleagues in psychological aspects of their work.
Assist in developing and delivering evidence based psychological programmes and self-management materials.
Liaise with, support and facilitate access to mental health services, NHS Talking Therapies and third sector support services as appropriate, developing integrated pathways of psychological care.
Assist in the promotion of the service and dissemination of relevant psychologically informed practice across the wider health system, representing the service at system meetings and building strong relationships with lead health care professionals in developing and delivering psychologically informed cancer care.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- A clinical psychologist qualified to Doctoral level or equivalent and eligible for registration with the HCPC
- BPS accredited postgraduate qualification in Clinical Psychology
- Registration with HCPC as Practitioner Psychologist
Desirable criteria
- Membership of the ACP or DCP and special interest group in oncology and palliative care
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience of working with patients with cancer including those at end of life
- Experience of training/teaching others including physical healthcare staff
- Experience of supervising non-psychology staff
- Experience of supervising other psychologists
- Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary team in a physical health setting
- Experience of research/service evaluation
- Experience of using remote methods of communication (video/telephone) to support patients/carers
Desirable criteria
- Experience of publishing in peer reviewed journals
- Experience of administering and interpreting neuro-psychometric tests
- Experience of writing annual reports for commissioners
- Experience of leading a clinical
- Experience of NHS planning/service improvement
- Experience of providing Level 2 training in line with NICE Guidance and Supportive and Palliative Care
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Specialist knowledge of working with people with cancer and those at end of life
- Knowledge and understanding of research methodologies
- Critical appreciation of NICE guidance for Supportive and Palliative Care and its application in psycho-oncology services
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of the application of the research process in NHS settings
- Knowledge of the theory and practice of specialised psychological therapies in specific groups that are seldom heard or present with complexities which impact on treatment
Skills
Essential criteria
- Demonstrate high level of verbal and written communication skills.

Contractual Requirements
Essential criteria
- A full, current UK driving license and access to a vehicle fit and insured for business use are required for this post. Reasonable adjustments will be made for disabled staff in line with the Equality Act 2010
- Able to travel to King’s Mill Hospital and other community settings
Training
Essential criteria
- Completion of post-doctoral supervisor training workshop programme (or equivalent individual workshops)
- Evidence of ongoing CPD activities relevant to the role
- Advanced training in specialist psychological therapies relevant to working with physical health difficulties
