Nottinghamshire Healthcare are delighted to offer an opportunity to join our Specialist Palliative Care Services.
We are advertising fixed term opportunities for a Band 7 Clinical Nurse Specialist to join our established team working in across Nottinghamshire. The Clinical Nurse Specialist role provides expert symptom management and psychological support to patients and those important to them. This post is offered in one of two sites depending on the interest of the successful candidate. This will be either as a Hospital role within Sherwood Forest Hospitals or in the community in our South locality.

Joining the wider specialist palliative care services from John Eastwood Hospice and Hayward House you will provide expert clinical support and advice to patients in their own home. The location of the role is subject to successful appointment however in all positions you will join a team of established and experienced nurse specialists working under the clinical leadership of Consultants in Palliative Medicine.
Main duties of the job
As a specialist in palliative care you will provide expert clinical support to patients and those important to them, predominantly in the community setting. This will include management of pain and symptom control as well as psychological support and care in the last days of life.
As an expert in your field you will also support the delivery of a portfolio of training and education to staff in all settings. This will include direct teaching and shadowing and peer support.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The successful candidate will be forward thinking and passionate about palliative care.
You will have excellent communication and influencing skills and be confident at undertaking holistic assessments and making recommendations for care based on expert knowledge and skill.
You will be able to work in pressured environments with frequent exposure to emotional distress and death and dying.
We are particularly interested to receive applications from professionals with a background in urgent and acute care, elderly medicine and broader non malignant disease.
In return the successful candidate will join a caring and supportive team based within our specialist palliative care services. Please note applicants will be required to pay for their DBS check. Costs are deducted from salary following appointment. The cost of the DBS application is £26.40 (standard) or £54.40 (enhanced), this cost will be deducted from your salary over the first 2 months of employment.

Essential criteria
- First level General Nurse Registration
- Post-basic qualification in palliative care
- Teaching qualification
- Non-Medical prescribing – or willingness to undertake
Desirable criteria
- Degree module in palliative care
- Degree in health related subject
- Advanced communications skills training
- Psychology level 2 training
Experience
Essential criteria
- Substantial proven palliative care experience
Desirable criteria
- Experience in a specialist nurse role
- Community experience / insight into community issues
- Specialist palliative care experience
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Knowledge of symptom management at a depth expected for band 7.
- Sound knowledge of palliative care philosophy.
- Knowledge of Clinical Governance including audit and research.
Desirable criteria
- Sound knowledge of advance care planning
