Job overview

The Community CAMHS Service within Nottinghamshire supports Children, Young People and their families where there are emotional and mental health needs.

This is an exciting opportunity to be involved in a new and exciting Mental Health Support Team (MHST) within the Community CAMHS service, as a joint initiative between health and education.

We are looking to recruit a Senior Education Mental Health Practitioner (EMHP)   to work within our project schools across Bassetlaw in Nottinghamshire County to deliver early intervention support and treatment within identified schools. This role will support with the SEN and group treatment offer.

The MHST works closely with and alongside staff in education settings to support the mental health and wellbeing of young people, their families and teachers.

Main duties of the job

 We are an early intervention wellbeing service aimed at providing support for children young people and families around low-level emotional wellbeing needs, such as anxiety, low mood, managing emotions, and sleep.  We link in directly with Nottinghamshire CAMHS teams and provide ‘in school’ sessions to promote a positive mental health.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The role of the Senior Education Mental Health Practitioner  within the area of the Nottinghamshire project will include one to one and group work. There will also be opportunity to develop the SEN offer to support young people accessing the MHST service and provide support to staff in education.

The interventions delivered will be brief and focused on early intervention.

The schools included in this project will have a designated Mental Health Lead, who can refer directly into the service. We work closely alongside these staff as we support them in creating a whole school approach to mental health.

You will work with a variety of agencies to ensure a quality service is provided. You will work alongside more junior members of the team, to deliver parent, well-being and 1:1 sessions. There will also be a duty element to the role, alongside facilitating drop-in sessions within schools.

You must have two years minimum experience post qualification as an Education Mental Health Practitioner  to  be eligible for post.

You must also have experience of working therapeutically with children, young people and families where there are emotional difficulties within a CAMHS service. It is preferable if you have experience of working in this capacity within schools.

The MHST cover the county of Nottinghamshire and have bases across the county, the main base for the team is at Highbury Hospital, Nottingham, NG6 9DR.

Please note applicants will be required to pay for their DBS check. Costs are deducted from salary following appointment. The cost of the DBS application is £26.40 (standard) or £54.40 (enhanced), this cost will be deducted from your salary over the first 2 months of employment.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Education Mental Health Practitioner with post-qualification experience
Desirable criteria
  • Educated to degree level
  • Qualification in therapeutic approaches with children and families eg CBT systemic, solution focused, play therapy
  • Registration with relevant professional body

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Proven post qualification experience
  • Experience of Multi agency work, in particular in schools
  • Skills and experience of working with children, young people and families around a range of emotional/mental health, behavioural and additional health or developmental needs.
  • Experience of teaching groups of professionals and parents
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of the ability to use and provide clinical supervision, and mentoring to junior staff
  • Community experience, working in schools and with families

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation and documents pertaining to children (e.g. Children’s Act, Mental Health Act, NSF, Every Child Matters, Future In Mind, Transforming Childrens and young people’s Mental Health in Schools)
  • Knowledge and experience of provision of a holistic emotional/mental health assessment particularly within Mental health support teams
  • Knowledge and experience of CBT informed practice and theory
  • Ability to manage a defined caseload if required.
  • Organise own work schedule
  • Ability to maintain accurate case records in line with Trust policies and procedure
  • Ability to be an autonomous practitioner whilst being able to work as an integral part of a multi agency locality team
  • Knowledge and experience of the Whole School Approach to Mental health

  • Ability to use electronic data recording systems.
  • Knowledge and application of behaviour programmes and support for parents of children with emotional health problems
  • Knowledge and experience of the provision of different models of therapy and interventions

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Ability to identify training needs and prepare and deliver training packages for tier 1 (universal) practitioners
  • Ability to offer individual and group therapeutic interventions.
  • Ability to co ordinate and facilitate whole school approaches to mental health , and develop robust systems around this key function
  • Ability to adapt to a variety of SEN needs to ensure inclusion in the MHST
Desirable criteria
  • Providing Clinical supervision and mentorship to junior staff

Training

  • Successful completion of EMHP course

  • Experience of ability to design and deliver training to a variety of audiences

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to be able to work in the community & transport needed equipment for training and consultation from your vehicle to place of work in the community (e.g. Laptops, projectors, flip charts).
