Job overview
This is a rare opportunity to increase and develop your skills and knowledge in Endocrinology, due to maternity leave we have a fixed term 9 month opportunity to be an endocrine nurse specialist.
do you want a challenge, an opportunity to learn about Endocrine disorders, to develop skills in having your own clinic lists and patients to monitor and follow up, to support the multidisciplinary team to provide a patient centred high standard of service
Main duties of the job
Work with the team to support patients through the pathway of their health journey.
prepare clinics for dosing of medication learning how to increase and reduce doses of Carbimazole propylthiouracil and levothyroxine.
consent and explain the endocrine tests to support their diagnosis
undertake the tests and develop skills in interpreting the results
educating patients to manage their sick day rules and to inject hydrocortisone

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
review clinic prepared notes and ensure dose of medication is prescribed to allow telephone clinic to occur
undertake face to face and telephone consultations, managing your own list of patients
educate patients on how to manage their disease including how to self administer injections
support helpline patients
work with the advanced nurse practitioner to develop the service and your own skills
undertake investigative tests and interpret the results
attend governance and education sessions

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- qualified nurse on NMC register
Desirable criteria
- 1st level degree
- non medical prescribing qualification
Experience
Essential criteria
- knowledge of Endocrinology diseases or similar long term disorders
- evidence of independent working of own caseload
Desirable criteria
- experience of working with patients to understand life long conditions
- experience of dictating letters or providing information to GP and patients
Applicant requirements
You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
