Job overview

Are you a qualified, or due to qualify soon, High Intensity CBT Therapist looking for a service that is committed to your ongoing professional development? A service that puts staff wellbeing and patient care at the heart of everything they do? If so, the Buckinghamshire Talking Therapies service has a great opportunity for you!

Main duties of the job

As a qualified High Intensity CBT Therapist, you will support patients at Step 3, offering digital and face-to-face assessment and treatment sessions, and facilitating group therapy sessions. You will also participate in a duty rota, offering guidance and support to your BTT colleagues. You will also have opportunity to actively participate in different projects and workstreams.

In return, we offer robust supervision from skilled supervisors and managers, with the opportunity to learn to become a case management supervisor yourself. We have an excellent rolling programme of high quality CPD training, delivered by the experts in the field, with close links to both Oxford Cognitive Therapy Centre (OCTC) and Oxford Centre for Anxiety Disorders and Trauma (OxCADAT). In addition, we also provide staff with a personal annual CPD budget.

The Trust hosts the Oxford Institute of Clinical Psychology Training and Research and the Oxford Cognitive Therapy Centre. BTT is actively involved in research, and the service benefits from being a member of the Oxford Academic Health Science Network – Anxiety and Depression Network led by Professor David Clark.

The Bucks Talking Therapies team follows a hybrid working pattern, with 2 days in a Trust clinic/office and 3 days from home.

We have two main bases, in Aylesbury and High Wycombe, with additional clinic space around the county. Ability and willingness to travel for business purposes is essential.

Qualified High Intensity Therapists are expected to be accredited with the British Association of Behavioural & Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP). Registration must be maintained annually, at the practitioner’s expense. Please ensure you complete the section within this application form asking for your registration details. If you are awaiting confirmation of registration, please provide evidence of your submission for registration.

Candidates who have completed training in a second therapeutic modality such as EMDR and Mindfulness would be desirable.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • BABCP accredited cognitive behavioural psychotherapist (or willing to apply for accreditation and be awarded it within 6 months of the post starting).

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrates an understanding of anxiety and depression and how it may present in Primary Care.
  • Demonstrates an understanding for the need to use evidence based psychological therapies and how it relates to this post.
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of the issues surrounding older adults or those with physical health problems.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of providing evidence based psychological therapies including CBT.
  • Experience with routine outcome monitoring.
  • Experience in establishing diagnosis / psychological formulation.
  • Experience of providing supervisory support to colleagues.

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Able to develop good therapeutic relationships with clients.
  • Ability to be self-reflective.
