Job overview

We have an opportunity for a full-time HR Consultant to join the Community and Corporate HR Operational Team on a fixed term basis to support the work of the team until 31 March 2026.

You'll be responsible for providing complex HR advice and guidance on a range of workforce issues and have a pragmatic, ‘can-do’ approach working alongside the team to support the HR Business Partner on delivering organisational change and transformation programmes.  This will involve developing appropriate HR interventions and providing advice and guidance on a wide range of HR issues.

You'll be required to demonstrate significant HR experience at an operational level within a complex and unionised environment with the ability to establish credibility at all levels and have excellent communication and interpersonal skills as well as a creative approach to HR solutions.

It is essential that you can work well under pressure in a busy operational environment, prioritising conflicting demands as required whilst maintaining a calm, pleasant and professional attitude at all times. You'll also need developed IT and analytical skills as analysing HR metrics and other workforce data will form part of your role.

Main duties of the job

  • Support the Head of HR in development and delivery of the Trust’s workforce strategy, taking account of the Trust’s performance objectives and other key drivers and challenges, this will include working on specific projects to support delivery of the workforce strategy, both within the service area (supporting directorate(s)) and across the Trust as appropriate.
  • Work with the wider HR teams to ensure the services provided meet the needs of the directorate(s) being supported by utilising the expertise of the specialist teams in the People directorate to ensure workforce issues are addressed efficiently and effectively. This may mean leading on workforce matters relating to transformation/quality improvement/cost efficiency programmes for example.
  • Assist managers in identifying HR solutions to resolve business issues and coordinate input from other specialised HR functions as required.
  • Develop robust relationships with managers in order to influence, challenge and support area/people deliverables and practices.
  • Coach and influence managers in dealing with key people management and development issues, identifying training and development needs to improve staff contribution for the benefit of individuals and the service.
