Job overview

The CAMHS eating disorders team based at Raglan House are seeking a a full time Consultant in child and adolescent psychiatry, specialising in eating disorders covering the  Oxfordshire area. 

You will work with the other consultant in the team (1WTE clinical sessions) and be supported by a speciality doctor who will work closely with the Consultants and 1 Consultant paediatrician who provides 2PA per week.  Currently there is a further locum specialty doctor in the team. There is a full time ST5/6 in the team. The CAMHS ED team has a 0.8 team manager who is responsible to the Service Manager.  There are arrangements in place for cover for annual leave, sick leave and study leave being provided within a group of consultants who cover ED, OSCA, crisis and LD.

Main duties of the job

The team currently assesses 2-3 new cases each week and the total team case load is around 150 cases. Referrals are received from GPs in Oxfordshire, school staff, social care, other CAMSH pathways and from self-referral. There are clear criteria for referral. Most of the cases are case managed by members of the multi-disciplinary team, involving the Consultant Psychiatrist as needed. The post holder would be able to take on a limited number of cases for family-based therapy and/or CBT-E, depending on their interest.  The post holder would occasionally be required to provide second opinions for other teams and consultation and liaison with other teams.

QUALIFICATIONS

Essential criteria
  • Membership or Fellowship of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, or equivalent qualification (in accordance with Royal College of Psychiatrists’ Guidelines)
  • Section 12 (Mental Health Act) Approval
  • CCT in Psychiatry; OR Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register in psychiatry; OR within six months of achieving CCT at the time of interview; OR CESR
  • Higher specialist training in child and adolescent psychiatry in approved training post for a minimum of three years, equivalent training in another country, or previous consultant experience relevant to this post
Desirable criteria
  • Sub-specialty or other specialist clinical training relevant to post

CLINICAL EXPERIENCE

Essential criteria
  • Experience of the full range of clinical responsibilities expected of a Consultant in this specialty
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of close collaborative work with social care and other agencies
  • Development of close collaboration with primary care services
  • Application of evidence-based practice and interest in clinical and policy developments for this care group
