Are you an RMN, Social Worker or OT seeking a new challenge in CAMHS?

We are seeking a Mental Health Practitioner to join our team! This full-time role provides recovery-focused care to children and young people in mental health crisis. Working across Oxfordshire within a multidisciplinary CAMHS team, you will assess needs and risks, coordinate evidence-based interventions, manage a caseload and collaborate with families and partner agencies. The seven-day community service includes weekends and bank holiday working. 

We are seeking a registered Mental Health Nurse, Children’s Social Worker or Occupational Therapist with relevant mental health and community experience. You will communicate confidently, assess and manage risk, prioritise effectively, maintain clear records and contribute to multidisciplinary working. Compassion, adaptability, resilience and a strong commitment to safeguarding and inclusive care are essential.

This rare opportunity offers expert supervision, practical experience and structured development towards a Band 6 role. You will join a supportive specialist team that values collaboration, learning and staff wellbeing while making a meaningful difference to children, young people and families in crisis.

 

Main duties of the job

The Mental Health Practitioner is responsible for assessing children and young people experiencing acute mental health difficulties, identifying and managing risk, and coordinating evidence-based interventions that support recovery. The role includes holding and managing a caseload, responding to changes or deterioration in a young person’s presentation, maintaining accurate and timely clinical records, and working collaboratively with families, carers, schools, CAMHS colleagues and partner agencies.
 
The post-holder also contributes to multidisciplinary meetings, shift coordination, safeguarding, service development, audit and training, while maintaining professional registration, confidentiality and compliance with Trust policies. 
 
The Role involves flexible community-based working across Oxfordshire, independent travel between locations and participation in a seven-day rota operating between 8am and 8pm, including weekends and bank holidays.

  • To have a good knowledge and interest in community care and have specific clinical expertise in mental health.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Mental Health Nurse or Children’s Social Worker or Occupational therapy Professional registration / Professional qualification (degree or equivalent).

Experience

Essential criteria
  • To have appropriate experience, which should include some community and working with mental health. To have experience of working within a multidisciplinary team
Desirable criteria
  • Community work with people with mental health needs. To have experience of audit.

Personal qualities

Essential criteria
  • To be able to manage in a stressful working environment and with emotional or aggressive patients or carers.
  • Adaptable and flexible. Able to use own initiative when appropriate.
  • Team player. Reliable. able to build rapport
