Are you a visionary estates leader ready to shape the future of healthcare infrastructure?

We're recruiting for an experienced Head of Estates to join our senior management team on a full-time basis at our Littlemore Mental Health Centre in Oxford. This pivotal role offers the opportunity to lead a high-performing estates and facilities department, ensuring our estate is safe, compliant, and aligned with national standards.

You'll oversee the operational estates and facilities services across Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust. This will involve managing internal and external communications, overseeing statutory compliance and risk management, developing and implementing safe working procedures, and ensuring robust professional structures are in place.

You'll also be leading on capital investment and lifecycle works, manage performance monitoring and audits, and ensure high-quality service delivery. Your professional leadership in this role will guide the estates team and support strategic planning,  deputising for the Director of Estates and Facilities when required.

Main duties of the job

  • Lead operational estates and facilities services across the Trust.
  • Ensure statutory compliance and safe working practices.
  • Develop and deliver capital investment and lifecycle programmes.
  • Provide professional leadership and strategic direction.
  • Manage risk, governance, and emergency planning.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and team empowerment.

You'll be responsible for:

  • Senior Estates Operational Managers and Engineering Managers.
  • Operational Capital Teams and Estates Teams.
  • Liaising with internal and external stakeholders including universities, local authorities, and NHS partners.

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Able to demonstrate expert knowledge of all aspects of operational estates and facilities management.
  • Detailed knowledge of HTM/HBN requirements in relation to estate management

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Can demonstrate knowledge of NHS PLACE inspections. Degree and master’s level qualification in estate and facilities related subject; or equivalent qualification or can demonstrate significant relevant experience to role.
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng)
Desirable criteria
  • NEBOSH certificate in construction

Further Training or Job Related Aptitude and Skills

Essential criteria
  • Proven leadership and staff management skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including report writing
  • Problem solving, decision making and analytical skills

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experienced in risk management.
  • Experience of working across departments and organisational boundaries.
  • Significant relevant post qualification experience as a senior manager within an estates and facilities department.
  • Experienced in the use of a wide range of Microsoft packages with keyboard skills including writing corporate documents.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working within a healthcare environment.

Contractual Requirements

Essential criteria
  • Able to work flexibly.
  • Ability to travel independently between sites within the Trust.
