Band 6

Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest NHS teaching trusts in the country. It provides a wide range of general and specialist clinical services and is a base for medical education, training and research.

The Trust comprises of four hospitals - the John Radcliffe Hospital, Churchill Hospital and Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Headington and the Horton General Hospital in Banbury.

Our values, standards and behaviours define the quality of clinical care we offer and the professional relationships we make with our patients, colleagues and the wider community. We call this Delivering Compassionate Excellence and its focus is on our values of compassion, respect, learning, delivery, improvement and excellence. These values put patients at the heart of what we do and underpin the quality healthcare we would like for ourselves or a member of our family. Watch how we set out to deliver compassionate excellence via the OUH YouTube channel.

Many of our recruitment programmes use Value Based Interviewing to identify those who have the skills we seek, who share our values and who are able to deliver compassionate excellence from the outset. We know that this makes a significant difference to your job satisfaction and above all the outcomes and experience of our patients and their families. Job overview

The Department of Laboratory Haematology is spread across 4 sites at 3 hospitals in Oxford and Banbury, and the successful candidates would work as part of a team at the Oxford and Banbury sites of the Trust. Self-development is encouraged with access to a number of postgraduate courses.

The Department is both UKAS 15189 and HCPC accredited.

We are looking to recruit to Band 6 posts to support the broad workload across the Department.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be HCPC registered and completed or making good progress towards Specialist Portfolio or equivalent. The successful candidate will have an interest in Haematology and / or Blood Transfusion; they will rotate through all sections, covering the full range of Haematology and Blood Transfusion.

Equipment in Haematology is  Sysmex equipment across all 4 sites. Blood Transfusion has networked Blood-Tx and integrated Remote Release to a greater extent than most sites in the UK.

The Oxford University Hospital Haematology has a more diverse range of testing being carried out than many other Hospitals with a variety of specialist workload being referred in, and training in appropriate specialist sections may be given, over time, as required.

A flexible approach to working hours is required; staff will be expected to work on all sites as required. The Haematology Department is a 24/7/365 operation and staff will be expected to work a variety of hours to meet the needs of the service. The successful candidate(s) will work as part of a busy multidisciplinary team and have a positive professional approach to patient care.

This is a BAND 6 Role and Candidates without HCPC Registration will not be considered.
