Job overview

The post holder will give Administrative assistance for the Powys Maternity services, based on 20 hours per week. 

This is a varied role and the need for flexibility and adaptability is essential

To carry out a range of administrative tasks which support the day to day running and functioning of the midwifery team, including retrieving, creating and filing notes , inputting data onto clinical systems, receiving phone calls and ensuring enquiries are dealt with/directed to the correct member of staff. 

 

Main duties of the job

Receive and direct visitors and relatives in a professional and courteous manner.

Answer the telephone, convey messages.

Deal with enquiries from medical staff and the public concerning the admission, transfer and discharge of women.

Inform midwifery staff as women arrive and ensure that women's case notes are available and complete.

Input correct information and accurately use the Welsh Patient Administration System and electronic maternity system.

Dealing with enquiries either on the telephone or face to face with women, 
relatives, medical staff, nursing staff, colleagues, or members of the public.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications and/or Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • GCSE standard in English and Maths or equivalent qualification or experience
  • Basic computer skills
  • Able to demonstrate clear transferable skills valid to a healthcare setting
  • Skills in filing
Desirable criteria
  • NVQ level 2 in health care
  • Ability to speak Welsh

Experience

  • Clear communication skills both oral and written
  • Good organisational skills
  • Can demonstrate an understanding of health & safety issues
