We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Occupational Therapist to join our team as a Specialist Learning Disability Occupational Therapist (Band 6) within Powys Teaching Health Board.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Occupational Therapist to provide specialist assessment and intervention for people with complex physical, functional and occupational needs across a variety of community settings.

You will manage a diverse caseload working with people who have a learning disability as well as working closely with their families, carers and multidisciplinary colleagues to support people to achieve their goals, maximise independence and improve quality of life.

Whilst previous experience working as an Occupational Therapist within Learning Disabilities is desirable, this is not essential. The successful candidate will be supported to learn and develop by the OT Clinical Lead in Learning Disabilities and there will be with support available from the wider MDT. 

This service operates weekdays only. 

Main duties of the job

• Manage a caseload of patients with complex health and functional needs, carrying out comprehensive occupational therapy assessments and delivering evidence-based, person-centred interventions.
• Develop, implement and evaluate treatment plans to maximise independence, participation in meaningful occupations and quality of life.
• Provide specialist advice on equipment, moving and handling, environmental adaptations, housing needs, seating, postural management and strategies to support daily living. 
• Work collaboratively with patients, families, carers and multidisciplinary teams to plan and coordinate care. 
• Deliver services across a range of community settings, including patients' homes, community hospitals, schools and other appropriate locations. 
• Use clinical reasoning and risk assessment skills to support decision-making for patients with complex needs, including those with sensory needs and behaviours that challenge.
• Supervise, support and appraise junior staff, support workers and Occupational Therapy students on placement.
• Contribute to service development, quality improvement initiatives, clinical audit and governance activities to support the ongoing development of Occupational Therapy services.
• Whilst the base of the post is located in Newtown and the general caseload will be across North Powys, the successful candidate will be required to be able to travel timely throughout the county as service need requires.
