Job overview
The successful post holder will join a forward thinking, motivated and experienced Community Mental Health Team (CMHT) in Machynlleth, North Powys. The acute service in this rural area is undergoing positive change, which is actively shaping services at present and the role will be both varied and interesting. The post holder will contribute to the mental health team's aspiration to be the best, but in addition, will enjoy the flexibility to develop their area of special interest. Your work will be highly appreciated by both the staff and by the local community.
The post covers a rural catchment area of approximately 18,000 and is a region of varying socio-economic status, covering the areas of Machynlleth and surrounding smaller towns and villages.
Powys Teaching Health Board, Powys County Council, GP’s, the voluntary sector and users and carers work closely together to plan and provide a range of mental health, learning disability, and substance misuse services in the area.
The post holder’s background should preferably have both community (particularly EIP, AOT or CRHT) as well as acute inpatient work experience and have an excellent knowledge of assessment and treatment of acute mental states.
Main duties of the job
It is envisaged that the post holder will work 8.5 programmed activities with a further 1.5 sessions allocated to the on-call participation. The overall split of the programmed activities is seven to be devoted to direct clinical care (inclusive of sessions for on-call) and two to supporting professional activities. As per the Welsh Consultant’s Contract, a further session for SPA/DCC is allocated to Medical Management and Clinical Leadership.
Currently, the post is set up as a 9-day fortnight, but the job plan is negotiable on appointment.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- MB BS or equivalent medical qualification
- Holds Welsh Approved Clinician status (or able to achieve within first three months)
- s12 Approved
Desirable criteria
- Valid Certified Basic Life Support Skills (or equivalent international qualification)
- Relevant Higher Degree e.g. MD; PhD; MSc
Eligibility

- Full GMC Registration and Licence to Practise
- On the GMC Specialist Register (including via CESR/European Community Rights) or will have a CCT/CESR(CP) date within 6 months of interview
Transport

Clinical Experience

- Broad based experience in psychiatry including the Mental Health Act
