Job overview
**Brand-new roles*
Do you like the fast paced environment and variety of clinical conditions encountered in Emergency Medicine?
Are you a motivated, innovative, clinically driven Pharmacist who wants to make a difference?
Do you hold, or are you eligible to undertake the Independent Prescribing qualification?
Do you enjoy team working?
If your answer is yes to any of the above then we have an exciting opportunity available within our Pharmacy departments at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital (RSH) and The Princess Royal Hospital, Telford (PRH) for a new team of specialist clinical Pharmacists to work within our Emergency Departments.
This is a brand new role within our Trust that we have introduced to develop a clinical service into the Emergency Departments through the formation of a strong clinical pharmacy team at the pivotal point in the patient’s journey. We have also recruited a team of dedicated Pharmacy Technicians to work within this team.
The successful applicant must be committed to delivering an excellent clinical pharmacy service built around the highest standards for our patients.
The applicant for the specialist role must be suitably qualified, as appropriate to the post. A postgraduate diploma in clinical pharmacy is essential. This is a prescribing role and those candidates who are not currently an independent prescriber will be supported and funded to undertake the qualification.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will:
- Be part of a team of highly specialised clinical Pharmacists delivering a high level of clinical Pharmacy input to the Emergency Department.
- Work as an independent prescriber to optimise medicine regimes for the patients
- Be part of a team of Pharmacists that deliver a consistently high clinical Pharmacy service for the patients.
- Act as a role model for, and be responsible for developing core competencies of any Pharmacist working in the emergency setting by organising their training and assessing their competency
- Work with the Team Leader – Clinical Services & Governance regarding the operational management and strategic development of pharmaceutical services and to reduce the risk of medication misadventure within the Emergency Division.
Working for our organisation
Our Poppy’s Promise Commitment
We believe that compassionate care sits at the heart of everything we do. Every member of our team — clinical or non-clinical — plays a vital role in ensuring that patients, families, and colleagues are treated with dignity, empathy, and respect at all times.
We expect all staff to demonstrate compassion not only through their words, but through their actions: by listening attentively, communicating clearly and kindly, and recognising individual needs, feelings, and circumstances of those in our care.
Effective communication is central to safe and high-quality healthcare. We value colleagues who take the time to understand others, explain information in a meaningful way, and respond to concerns with patience and understanding.
By joining our team, you are committing to uphold these values — ensuring that every patient feels heard, respected, and valued, and that compassion is embedded in every interaction, every day.
