Job overview
Due to movement of an existing staff member to do their TNA training an exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Chemotherapy Day Unit Nursing team as a Healthcare Assistant. This is an experienced, dedicated and well established team who would support the new applicant in settling into the role
The post will involve rotation between the Treatment Unit and the Outpatient Review Clinics to provide support to the nursing team and the patients treated here.
The post is for up to 37.5 hours per week to be worked between 8am and 6pm Monday to Friday and set working days would be possible on discussion with the unit manager.
You must possess GCSE's in Maths and English at grades 9 - 4 (or equivalent).
Main duties of the job
The role of the postholder is diverse. In the treatment Unit the successful applicant will be required to undertake observations of patients receiving chemotherapy; providing drinks and meals for patients as required; acting as a runner between the Unit and Pathology/ Pharmacy as needed; supporting the nursing staff within the unit as they place peripherally inserted central catheters and undertaking simple dressings. There will also be a requirement to collect blood products from pathology to support the transfusion workload of the unit.
Within the Outpatient Clinic the role involves weighing and calling patients through for consultation, chaperoning patients having clinical examination, undertaking simple dressings; and undertaking observations as required.
In both areas a large part of the job role involve communicating and supporting patients and their relatives so there will be a large amount of working with the public involved.

- NVQ Level 2 in health related subject

Essential criteria
- Can demonstrate an understanding, through personal statement and interview of what is required within the role of a Healthcare Assistant in the care setting
- Can describe the Trust values and demonstrate how they put these in to practice within their caring role
Desirable criteria
- Previous caring experience in hospital, community, voluntary or work experience.
- Previous experience of working with the public
