Job overview
Due to progression and maternity leave within the existing team we are looking to recruit into this position for 1 years initially with potential for this to be extended. This is an exciting opportunity to join a well established and helpful team of Acute Oncology CNS's to provide excellent clinical care for patients admitted with complications resulting either from their Oncology disease or treatment. This is also an opportunity to develop your skills and knowledge working, all of which would be transferrable back to your existing role.
Set working days can be considered although it would be expected that the post holder will work weekends on a rota basis alongside the rest of the team.
Main duties of the job
You will provide specialist help for patients receiving treatment for disease or treatment related complications. You will need to have excellent clinical skills and standards within the Oncology/Haematology speciality and a wide knowledge of oncological treatments and how to manage complications arising from them. You will also have a passion for being able to make a difference for patients who are going through a life changing, and in some cases life-limiting diagnosis and treatment.
Excellent communication skills will be essential in order to provide high quality information to the patient and you will need to be confident in breaking bad news if this is required. This post will be expected to work across both The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and The Princess Royal Hospital, Telford sites so you must have the ability to travel cross site.

Essential criteria
- Significant post registration experience within the NHS
- RGN
- Evidence of Continuing Professional development/ qualification relevant to area of speciality
- ENB N59 or equiv
Desirable criteria
- Advanced physical assessment
- Non medical prescribing
Education and Professional Development
Essential criteria
- High level advanced clinical skills and knowledge. .
- Experience in teaching and training of staff
- Involvement in Nursing audit and Research
- An awareness and understanding of national and local issues relevant to speciaslity.
- Up to date knowledge and understanding of nursing policy and practice relevant to speciality
- Understanding national and local policy relating to speciality
Desirable criteria
- Experience with service development/improvement
- Experience of attending relevant local, network, national meetings/forums relevant to oncology
Skills
Essential criteria
- Chemotherapy administration skills
- Ability to work and communicate effectively within a multidisciplinary team setting within and outside the Trust
- Evidence of advanced communication skills including verbal, non verbal and written.
- Evidence of excellent Patient documentation and record keeping skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills with professional credibility
- Time management skills with an ability to act on own initiative and be both self directed and motivated in the work environment.
- Positive attitude to change with a proven ability to assist in the implementation of change and practice development.
