Acute Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist

NHS AfC: Band 7

Job overview

Due to progression and maternity leave within the existing team we are looking to recruit into this position for 1 years initially with potential for this to be extended.  This is an exciting opportunity to join a well established and helpful team of Acute Oncology CNS's to provide excellent clinical care for patients admitted with complications resulting either from their Oncology disease or treatment.  This is also an opportunity to develop your skills and knowledge working, all of which would be transferrable back to your existing role.

Set working days can be considered although it would be expected that the post holder will work weekends on a rota basis alongside the rest of the team.

Main duties of the job

You will provide specialist help for patients receiving treatment  for disease or treatment related complications.   You will need to have excellent clinical skills and standards within the Oncology/Haematology speciality and a wide knowledge of oncological treatments and how to manage complications arising from them.  You will also have a passion for being able to make a difference for patients who are going through a life changing, and in some cases life-limiting diagnosis and treatment.

Excellent communication skills will be essential in order to provide high quality information to the patient and you will need to be confident in breaking bad news if this is required.  This post will be expected to work across both The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and The Princess Royal Hospital, Telford sites so you must have the ability to travel cross site.
