Have you got an interest in women's health? 

An exciting opportunity has become available for a Health Care Assistant to work on our 12 bedded Gynaecology inpatient ward and Gynaecology Assessment and Triage Unit (GATU) , you will be working within women's health with a dynamic and friendly team. 

The ward is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  GATU is open Monday to Saturday 0700hrs - 1930hours.

The successful candidate will be fully supported with an induction, and training needs assessment. 

The successful applicant will be closely involved in supporting the patients and their families to help them get holistic care and support them through their journey of care. 

Main duties of the job

Provide or assist patients with personal care/hygiene including occasional direct exposure to bodily fluids etc.

Toileting, including emptying urinary catheter bags

After appropriate training undertake clinical activities as delegated by nursing and medical staff reporting any abnormalities,

Observations of temperature, pulse, blood pressure & Heights and weight measurements.

ECG recordings

Simple dressings and removal of cannulas.

Phlebotomy, cannulation and BM blood samples.

Assist patient's preparation prior to clinical procedures and during.

Undertake patient and other manual handling tasks using the correct equipment and techniques following specific training. 

Contribute fully to ensure the unit and the kitchen are kept clean and all items and equipment are stored, cleaned and used correctly

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Can demonstrate an understanding, through personal statement and interview, of what is required within the role of Health Care Assistant in an acute care setting
Desirable criteria
  • Previous hospital experience

Communication

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of effective verbal – face to face / telephone, written communications and listening skills.

Self Management

Essential criteria
  • Is aware of their own values and is able to demonstrate alignment to the values of the Trust.
Desirable criteria
  • Understanding of the principles and values underpinning good care practice

Education

Essential criteria
  • GCSE Grade 9 – 4 in Numeracy or equivalent (Level 2 Qualification)
