Consultant in Anaesthesia
Job overview
Applications are warmly invited for the position of Substantive Consultant in Anaesthesia with a specialist interest in Paediatric Anaesthesia, to join our dynamic and thriving A.C.S.A. accredited anaesthetic department at the Royal United Hospitals Bath NHS Foundation Trust.
We are looking for committed anaesthetists of proven ability who can contribute fully to both clinical and managerial roles within the department. Candidates should bring skills or knowledge that will enhance and expand the services already provided at the Royal United Hospital. An ability to embrace change and develop services for more effective care delivery will be considered an asset.
Main duties of the job
The appointee will work clinically at the RUH (Royal United Hospital) Combe Park site and at Sulis Hospital (owned by the RUH). This post is a standard 10PA contract. Comprising 8.5 PAs Direct Clinical Care (including on call) and 1.5PAs Supporting Professional Activities in line with the national Consultant contract.
The clinical work will include elective and emergency operating lists across a broad range of surgical specialties (except for cardiothoracic, neurosurgery, vascular, burns, transplant, and major trauma) plus pre-operative assessment and peri-operative care.
This job includes a specialist interest in Paediatric Anaesthesia. Paediatric services at the RUH handle around 2,000 elective and emergency cases a year across urology, orthopaedics, ENT, ophthalmology, maxillofacial surgery, special care dentistry and radiology, including a dexmedetomidine sedation service for MRI and a developing virtual pre-operative assessment pathway. You will work closely with paediatricians, surgeons, theatre teams, emergency medicine, critical care and the wider multidisciplinary team, and contribute to clinical governance, education, quality improvement and service development.
Applicants wishing to work less than full time, or in a flexible working pattern, are welcomed and will be fully considered.
