Job overview
Are you a friendly, organised, and customer-focused individual who enjoys helping people and thrives in a busy environment? We are looking for an enthusiastic Receptionist to join our Gastroenterology Outpatients team, playing a vital role in delivering an excellent experience for patients attending our service.
As the first point of contact, you will provide a warm and professional reception service, ensuring patients are welcomed and supported throughout their outpatient journey. You will be responsible for managing clinic bookings, coordinating follow-up appointments, supporting waiting list activity, and responding to emails in a timely and efficient manner.
Working closely with Consultants, Nurse Specialists, clinical teams, and managers, you will help ensure clinics run smoothly while maintaining high standards of patient care and customer service. You will also use your initiative and problem-solving skills to resolve queries and support the wider reception team in delivering an efficient and responsive service.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is highly organised, enjoys working with people, and takes pride in providing outstanding administrative support within a busy healthcare environment.
Join us and help make a positive difference to our patients' experience every day.
Main duties of the job
As part of the Gastroenterology Outpatients team, you will play a key role in delivering an efficient and patient-focused administrative service. Responsibilities include:

- Providing a welcoming reception service and responding to telephone and face-to-face enquiries.
- Managing appointment outcomes, cancellations, and clinic changes, ensuring records are updated promptly.
- Liaising with Consultants, Specialist Nurses, patients, and colleagues to support the smooth running of clinics.
- Communicating sensitively and professionally with patients, including those who may require reassurance or additional support.
- Escalating issues appropriately and supporting service improvements and administrative best practice.
- Working collaboratively with colleagues to ensure continuous service delivery and cover during periods of leave or absence.
