Staff Nurse - Gynaecology Outpatients

Band 5

Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for registered nurses with a passion for women's health to work within the gynaecology outpatients department at the RUH in Bath. The department specialises in emergency and routine gynaecology care for women across Bath and Wiltshire.

The gynaecology outpatient department is unique providing urgent and same day treatment for women with emergency gynaecology conditions and early pregnancy complications, alongside one-stop clinics. We also care for women undergoing surgical procedures for miscarriage and termination of pregnancy.

Main duties of the job

You will be joining a small and friendly team who are dedicated to providing high standards of care. You will be required to  work Monday-Friday in a range of gynaecology clinics covering a variety of gynaecology sub-specialities including general gynaecology, gynae-oncology, colposcopy and uro-gynaecology.  Our emergency gynaecology clinic runs each morning and a registered nurse will be allocated to work to help run the clinic alongside the on-call team. The surgical list runs 3 days a week from the department so previous surgical experience caring for women pre and post operatively is desirable. We run many minor operating clinics under local anaesthetic such as manual vacuum aspiration, endometrial ablation, complex coil insertion, urethral bulking and polyp resection. Previous experience in an outpatient or theatre setting is desirable.

Working well in a team and having excellent communication skills are vital for the role. You will be compassionate and empathetic as caring for women with pregnancy loss and cancer can be emotionally challenging at times. You will be motivated and enthusiastic and will be supported during your orientation to the department to gain specific competencies and skills. We are invested in our staff development and encourage opportunities for further training.
