Specialist Support Midwife for Perinatal Mental Health

Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity to join  one of specialist Maternity teams to deliver safe, evidence-based Midwifery care. The Perinatal Mental Health Midwife will work within the Maternity perinatal mental health team. You will act as a resource to staff and provide direct clinical care to women and birthing people. The role is a Fixed term  position to cover maternity leave for 12 months,  and requires effective working within the Multi disciplinary team.

Main duties of the job

Professional      Fulfil the role of midwife as defined by the Nursing and Midwifery Council adhering to the Midwives Rules and Code of Practice thereby ensuring relevant registration is maintained.

 Clinical  Support with the running of specialist mental health clinics.       Assess risk for women with mental health concerns.

  Complete screening with women including the use of validating screening tools.

  Take a mental health history, using the Bio, Psycho, social approach.

    Work to reduce discrimination and stigma around mental health.

    Support staff caring for women who present in crisis.

Education and training 

  Support with training on perinatal mental health for all maternity and obstetric staff.

   Attend monthly clinical supervision.
