Therapeutic Radiographer

Band 6

Job overview

We are seeking a motivated and skilled Radiographer to join our radiotherapy team, delivering safe, accurate, and compassionate care to patients throughout their treatment journey.

You will work as part of our friendly, collaborative and forward thinking radiotherapy team delivering high‑quality radiotherapy treatment and associated imaging using highly specialised equipment.

The role involves full accountability for patient care, supporting and supervising junior staff and students, and helping ensure an efficient flow of patients through pre-treatment, treatment areas, and the radiotherapy department as a whole.

You will be based in our state of the art Dyson Cancer Centre which opened in 2024 at the RUH. It was purpose-built to change the way we deliver cancer care. This flagship facility is more than just bricks and mortar - it’s a place of hope, innovation, and healing; creating a beautiful environment to work in.

Main duties of the job

You will maintain high professional standards while taking responsibility for treatment and pre‑treatment units, including acting as the senior radiographer in the absence of a Band 7. The role requires confident assessment of patient suitability for procedures, provision of clear information, and delivery of practical and emotional support to patients and their carers.

You will play a key role in image‑guided radiotherapy (IGRT), data recording, and the accurate interpretation and delivery of treatment plans and prescriptions. Monitoring patients throughout radiotherapy processes and ensuring meticulous record‑keeping will be central to your practice.

We are looking for someone with a passion for developing a specialist area of interest, contributing expert knowledge, and driving continuous improvement in clinical practice. You will support the induction, supervision, teaching, and motivation of staff and students, and represent the department to visitors and interested parties.

The role also involves active participation in clinical audit, research, and service evaluation, alongside the collection and management of departmental statistics. You will ensure full compliance with Trust policies, health and safety standards, ionising radiation regulations, local rules, and quality assurance requirements.

Working for our organisation

At the RUH we put people at the heart of what we do, working together as one team to make a difference for our patients, each other, and our community. No matter what your role is, we value everyone’s contribution in supporting the exceptional, person-centred care we pride ourselves on.

We are proud to be in the top 20 best hospitals to work for in the country.

We are committed to creating a compassionate and inclusive environment. This can be seen in our growing community of staff networks – celebrating successes and creating opportunities to listen and learn. We value our differences, champion kindness and civility, and truly believe that diversity makes us stronger.

A culture of learning, developing and innovating is the thread that runs throughout our whole organisation. We want to support you to thrive, taking your career to its full potential.

We value staff wellbeing, with a well-established programme of support. We believe in a holistic approach spanning all aspects of living a healthy life, including physical, emotional, spiritual and financial wellbeing. We’ve even got a pool!

We are committed to supporting you and hope you want to join our team. In the meantime, find out more about living and working the beautiful historic city of Bath, learn about our extensive package of staff benefits, and read about how we’re providing healthcare fit for the future with the landmark Dyson Cancer Centre and our passion for research.
