Job overview
Join our Eye Unit Team – full training provided
Are you looking to start a rewarding career in healthcare or explore a career in eye care? Join our warm, supportive and professional Eye Unit Team here at the Royal United Hospitals Bath, right in the heart of our beautiful city.
We're looking for friendly, organised individuals who enjoy helping others, communicating clearly and working in a busy but supportive clinical environment. No previous experience in eye care is required — just a positive attitude and a willingness to learn. Part-time may be considered for the right candidate.
You’ll be part of a highly skilled, welcoming team that includes Ophthalmologists, Associate Specialists, Optometrists, Optometry Technicians and Orthoptists — all passionate about delivering exceptional patient care and helping each other grow.
If you're proactive, interested in using technical equipment, resilient but compassionate and excited about starting a career with real development opportunities, we’d love to hear from you.
Main duties of the job
As an Optometry Technician, you’ll play a key role in supporting our clinical teams across the RUH Eye Clinic and Frome Medical Practice. Day-to-day, you’ll learn to carry out a variety of important eye‑health tests and assessments, such as:
- Measuring visual acuity
- Completing visual field tests
- Capturing retinal and anterior chamber images
- Performing OCT (optical coherence tomography) scans
- Supporting biometry measurements
You’ll also help with essential administrative tasks, working closely with our Senior Optometry Technicians to keep our clinics running smoothly.
Why Join Us?
- Full training provided – perfect for those new to healthcare or exploring a career in eye care.
- Supportive, friendly team committed to helping you develop
- Real career progression opportunities within eye care and wider healthcare
- Hands‑on experience in a specialist clinical environment
- A chance to make a genuine difference to patients every day
If you're ready to start a meaningful, patient‑focused career with excellent support and training, we’d be delighted to welcome you to our Eye Unit team.
